I don't think it's that harmful honestly. Like Shaun said its the same rules as UEFA.

I'm sure there are better ways to get Italian players into the top clubs, but this is at least a start. I have no stake in Italy winning anything, I'm purely and Inter fan. However, I would like to see more homegrown players in the squad too.

I think it's easier to build team chemistry with players of a similar background, and if they actually love the club that's a bonus as well.

There is nothing stopping clubs from buying overseas players at 16 or 17 and developing them as club trained products, right? Marotta is just pissed because Juve's only decent club trained player is Marchisio. They can bring back Mirante but they still will be forced to have mediocre players such as Marrone in their squad

Aside from Rube, Serie A has lost a lot of its appeal. Closing off will not help them. Best players should play. Salary should motivate them. It works most of the time in almost all areas. It's like flawed sampling.

I agree with that closing off the league is stupid, and I don't think this does that, but this will force investment in academies. Serie A can no longer compete with EPL clubs etc financially. They'll have to find another way. Developing players via the youth system makes the most sense. This will also mean less money wasted on the transfer market. Too many Serie A clubs lose money. This could help curve that.

Sweet, let's dilute the talent pool further. Until the youth systems themselves are overhauled and player development strategies are overhauled, this is going to be a disaster. There simply aren't enough quality Italian players for this to make anything better.

I'd like to see how many clubs don't meet these regulations before I make a proper judgement, but I get the feeling it's just us, Juve, Fiorentina and maybe Milan that would struggle with this.

Wait, and newly promoted clubs. I can't imagine Crotone etc has a great youth system

Yes but academies can't be properly developed overnight. It takes a while to get to a good level and until clubs get to that level, they are going to suffer.

There's no way Roma has enough players. Totti, Florenzi, Il Faraone, De Rossi, De Sanctis?

I maintain that what I believe will end up happening is you'll see Italian teams desperate to fill this quote spend ridiculous amounts of money on Italian players playing abroad (Ogbonna, Borini, etc.) to bring them back and skirt around developing players.

Well unfortunately that may be a growing pain, but something has to be done. The worst decision is doing nothing and keeping the status quo.

I think you'll find that most clubs will do a Berni(where the third GK is club trained). Assuming Roma do that then there will only be 1 player that'll have to find. That doesn't seem that unreasonable. This isn't perfect, but there should be long term benefits. Plus, aren't the other leagues going to also adopt this?

Also, players under 21 are not included in the 25 man squads. This should mean more time for younger players. Something people have been wanting for a long time.

I don't really think this is the way to go about things. Definitely in the short term, prices for mediocre but club-trained players will rise. That doesn't make those players better, just more expensive. And consider that those players would probably have played for lesser teams in Serie A or B – now those teams will have to shell out more to keep those players or replace them. That's money that could be spent elsewhere.

In the long run, will it spur clubs to invest more in academies? I kinda doubt it. What's to stop them from just continuing the short term strategy of buying club-trained players? It might be more efficient and wiser to invest in an academy, but that's been true before this reform as well. If clubs didn't invest in youth before, why will they do it after this change if they don't strictly have to?

Very stupid & shortsighted by FIGC.

The only thing that changed by this rule is the composition of bench players
Since there is no limitation on week to week formation, any team will still be able to start with 11 foreigners

for example inter playing 4-2-3-1

GK:
1 stater foreign gk
1 nation tied second gk
1 club tied third gk

defender:
4 main foreign defenders
2 rotational foreign defender
1 nation tied backup defender
1 club tied backup defender

midfielder:
5 main foreign mf
3 rotational foreign mf
2 nation tied mf
1 club tied mf

striker:
1 main foreign striker
1 rotational foreign striker
1 club tied striker

england have been enforcing this regulation for years and they are still the lowest between top leagues in term of local player playing time (around 30%)
most of these young players ended up playing for reserve team and probably 1 or 2 are watching the match from bench as the foreign rotational will be used instead of them

I would even argue that it will make young player to have less and less play time because instead of getting loan to the smaller club, they will stay at club as bench warmers and registration fillers
The regulation failed to protect the one it tries to protect :yao:

Looks like he want to sell and dont , next day i sell then not, since the incident "teeth" failed the transfer 'thing 'i dont buy what berlu said anymore.

Moratti is more gentleman than berlu since he doesnt has the capacity to make Inter rise again with big heart he let it go unlike berlu and co (galiani) . No wonder merda fans were fed up.

The club are going nowhere with them, inter fortunately are in a good management with moratti then thohir then Suning , inter has set up the path and always clear with the goal.

berlusconi knows damn well that if he sells, he will lose power, for two reasons: 1. he will lose the prestige and the visibility deriving from being the owner of an important club; 2. it will be clear to everyone that he is not rich enough to afford being the owner of milan. so he would rather have to eat dog crap than having to sell milan and he's desperately trying to see if he can avoid it.
