There is no way this team is going to win the Champions League. They are not good enough.

Regarding Serie A, I hopefully and naively scan the fixtures from week to week looking for a match up where Napoli could potentilally drop points. Recently, it was Atalanta, this weekend, it was Juventus. But Napoli keep winning games.

Even with a game in hand and a direct match up against them in Naples, Inter are scared and desperate: scared to drop further points and desperate for other teams to do our bidding. To date, this season has been about missed opportunities and not playing to our potential: waiting for Lautaro to get started, leading games but not knowing how to finish, and dropped points.

Sometimes, the best squads do not always win. Inter may have the best squad in Serie A but we do not have the best team. And our biggest mistake this season is that from the beginning, we thought we had time to find our feet and there would be opportunities to make up points. But we all know from experience that with Conte at the helm of Napoli, those opportunities will be few and far between.

Here is to another week of hoping Napoli might slip up and that Inter will be able to keep pace.
Excellent post. Team is ass.

The season is just over halfway, and if Inter win their two games in hand, they'll be level on points with Napoli. So, what's the problem? On paper, Inter are right up there with Napoli, right?

But the results of the past few weeks have convinced me that Napoli are destined to win the Scudetto. I just don’t see the same hunger from Inter (as has already been pointed out), and then there is also the fatigue from playing so many games.

Consider my take as a dissapointment with the recent results, but I’ve already lost much of my interest in Serie A.

Just for some perspective, our current points pace is 89.3. Real Madrid is leading La Liga right now and their points pace is 88.7. They have the fortune right now of their closest competitor right now being on an 81.4 point pace, ours is at 91.5. Aside from the one time we've played Napoli, this is something we legitimately have zero control over.

Who cares about all of those irrelevant statistics crap. Table is what matters and also the way both team performs. They are able and are proving that from week to week that their mentality is stronger than ours. Also they are having one game per week. And Conte is a pupet master behind that. Thats why they are able to overturn negative result vs peers to win in the end, meanwhile our mentality and stamina are weak and we tend to fuck up positive result and even when we have 2 goals lead in the last 15 minutes of match we are capable to fuck up. Vs shitty teams we can hold on, but vs any relevant team not so much. If you play on three competition and aim for big trophys you need a better roster. Napoli is fucked next season if they keep same roster. Not even Conte effect will save em.

You really don't think those two things might be completely correlated to each other? It's easier for Napoli to be able to run over Juventus in the second half when Juventus had to play a game in Brussels earlier this week while Napoli had a full week of training with no travel. It's kind of ridiculous if you think we wouldn't have a stronger league record this season if we didn't have European commitments, but at the same time it's just something we're going to have to overcome, we'd obviously rather have CL games than not have them.

I mean, there are some uncomfortable truths here. Napoli have a better points tally from games they fell behind in than we do. That's true. They haven't lost any points from games where they held a 2nd half lead, we've lost six points. I'll grant both of those. But we're hand-wringing and criticizing our team for their failures in all of this when, through it all, we're still having a strong season (thus far) by any statistical standard. We have a top-5 points pace among teams in top-4 leagues. We've scored the most goals in the league this season, conceded the second-fewest. So I'll reiterate that we can't help it if Napoli - lighter schedule and all - is managing to keep pushing us each week. We have zero control over their games. It just feels like nonsense to suggest we're failing ourselves this season when we're on an 89-point pace. There's only been one season in the 3-points-for-win era of Serie A where 89 points wasn't enough to win the Scudetto. If that happened against his season, accept it for what it is and give Napoli their credit. There's no shame in that scenario.

Yeah, it doesn't feel like people understand the fixture congestion.

Napoli is where they are only because of Conte and one game a week. @Kramerica Industries made a great point that we cannot affect how Napoli play. Only thing we can do now regarding them, is beat them at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

And also some seem to have a feeling Inter squad is SO MUCH better than anyone else, including Napoli, that we should be able to do even better than what we've done so far with all these extra games (extra compared to Napoli). I don't think that is the case.

They even fucked off from the Coppa Italia. They have literally nothing else to play for than the Scudetto.

We spend every day on this forum criticizing Oaktree, criticizing poor signings we've made, lamenting our insufficient midfield and forward depth and the lack of bench options we have as a result of that, and then at the same time get mad when we can't keep up with a team who plays fewer games and has a manager who is legitimately elite when he only has one competition's worth of games to deal with. I dunno, feels contradictory.

Conte's situation right now is absolutely identical to his first season at Chelsea, taking over a once-removed league champion team who finished midtable the following season and isn't playing in Europe. That first year at Chelsea, they ran away with the league. His second season afterwards, with CL games back on the schedule? Nobody will hold it against them that they didn't defend their league title against 100-point Man City, but Chelsea finished 30 points out of 1st and finished in 5th place, out of the CL spots entirely.

He's a really good manager who might be the world's most elite league-specialist manager. In many ways, the biggest hope all along is that he and ADL would be such a toxic mix of personalities that Vesuvius might well erupt again before they had a chance to experience success. There's no doubt this relationship will end toxically - all of Conte's previous club gigs ended with him throwing a fit - but if Napoli wins another Scudetto then it will have 100% been worth it. Regardless, we all should've known from direct experience what we were going up against here.

Parma's goalkeeper is such an idiot. What the fuck did he thought, that he could get away with that amateurish push? Such a stupid PK to give away :palm:

Suzuki committed the dumbest penalty a goalkeeper can do. Could've just went for the ball instead of pushing Pavlovic ffs.

No, that would be boring too. I just have this feeling that Inter won’t be able to compete with Napoli (I hope I’m wrong). Consider my growing disinterest in Serie A as a personal disappointment, because I just can’t bear the thought of watching Lakaka or Conte win Serie A over Inter. From Lakaka’s perspective, we’d never hear the end of it.
As Bubba already pointed out, it’s more than just the stats. You can see it in how Napoli play, their ability to overcome adversity and fight their way back into games. Inter, on the other hand, have dropped points in the reverse matter. For me, Napoli have won the Scudetto with their recent results (again, I hope I'm wrong).
