Helal, why can't someone support the Italian NT? I have supported them ever since I began watching football, I've been to Italy a lot of times, I love the country, I love their football and I support an Italian club. Add to that that my country hasn't made it to the WC since 1986, and it seems it won't be making it for a while too, so what's the problem, huh?

Hey everyone ,

Im relatively new to this forum its good just to read what all of
you think but i thought it was about time to make a post. Im australian
and live in melbourne but my parents were born in Italy, so Australia vs
Italy was a nightmare for me, i was torn. I didnt really care who won in
the end and just wanted a good entertaining match. ALthough i was on
neither side it was really bad the way it ended because it was in the
dying minutes. But Italy are through so i am backing them all the way and hopefully we go all the way. But the thing that really annoys me and makes me angry is the fact that everyone says grosso is a cheat and dived, when i think it is totally unfair to say that. I pick up a paper and all i see is we were robbed, italians are cheat and it really pisses me off. Maybe it was a penalty and Aussies were robbed of that but its funny how all the papers forget that MAtterazzi was sent off for something that i dont think was worth a red card and personally i think that if the italians were not a man down they would have gone on to win the game.

Anyway just thought i'd share my feelings

I don't think any debate is needed, afterall there are more bizzare loves with particular player/team. I don't see there is mustn't non-Italians allowed to support Italian National team.

In my home town, Hong Kong that is, because we don't have a National team, you can go on the street and see hundreds and thousands of different National team shirts. It's definitely no strange for me to see many Italia shirt there, it's just that some people are lucky enough to have a good enough national team where as some are not.

I just dont get it, how the hell is supporting Inter different from supporting the Italian NT?? If I am not italian, then I certainly not from Milan, then I guess I shouldnt even support Inter.

I really think this NT supporting thing shouldn't even be discussed. People should be free to support whatever country they wish.

If it wasn't that way, why the hell do you have people all over the world watching and getting emotional in the WC? There are about 200 countries in the world, and only 32 make it to the WC, what about the rest?

And some non-natives fans are as passionate about the team they like as the natives are. I just read a story about a Thai getting killed because he argued with another Thai about the Grosso PK.

I still remember stories back in the 90's about Bangladeshi men comitting suicide because of Argentina's exists (apprarently, Argentina is big in Bangladesh.)

How more passionate can it get?

That is just crazy. I think everybody is free to support which ever country he or she wishes. However in my opinion it is much different when your blood is that of the country,you live the lifestyle of that country and you are immersed in the culture.

Talking about supporting. i'd love to wear the shirt of Estonia more than the shirt of Inter. One day, I hope to see my country playing in Euro's or World Cup like our neighbours Latvia. In the end, we owned them twice after Euro 04. Best day of my football fan life was to see Estonia beating Russia (The country I hate). Though 1:1 draw was also good vs. them.

All I hope for is that Italy or some of the Inter players would win it when it comes to big competitions, since Estonia has no chance there.

So much bs in the media that it was disastrous dive from Grosso and Italia should be ashamed. When i saw it live i thought, obvious penalty. When i first saw it replayed, i though maybe a bit of a dive or he just fell ´cause he looked so tired. Now when i watch it again and again and again, i say it is a penalty (doesnt really matter what i think of though).

Scroll to around 30-31 seconds and click pause...you´ll see Neill grabs (in his left arm) Grosso in the angle...Grosso fells down and it´s a penalty, a deserved one. You see it better in the bigger screen with better quality clip, but you can manage with this one as well.

I didnt like how Italia played in that match, but 11 against 10 isn´t so easy and win is all that matters. So, let´s just hope that they play better against better opponents and score some darn goals before i get an heart attack.

I totally agree Tommi, I think that not only Neil is stoping grosso's progress by going to ground be he in fact moves into grosso's way. I really didn't think it would be as controversial as it was but damn I was wrong.

Yeah, Italia always causes controversy, with or without a reason.

Even finnish commentators/news media was so out of control after it happened. All the headlines in our newspapers etc. Still, they hardly said anything when Adriano dived and got a yellow for simulating it and when he scored offside goal (both in Ghana match), or when £igo dived and got a penalty (first match i believe) and later headbutted Van Bommel, when Henry dived in Puyol case etc etc. But when something happens in Italia match, the whole world will heard of it.

Put italy away?

We are talking about an Italy who were a man down up front not at the back. And they defended with 9 players, I think even Brazil would of struggled to score agaisnt Italy with such a defence.
