I wasnt sure where to put this, discussing the Italy U21 & our primavera

so...

it'll be here!

http://football-italia.net/29373/u-21-squad-training-camp

Italy U-21 training squad has just been called up

From Inter:

Bardi
Bianchetti
Biraghi
Caldirola
Longo

No sign of Crisetig (probably because he doesnt play much), Benedetti (He doesnt seem to get the Italy u21 minutes he deserves for some reason, maybe hes not that good?), Donati - which is a bit unusual he normally does feature. Maybe hes too old now... I was hoping to see Bessa get called up too.

Bessa's injury has hurt his chances... hopefully he will get some playing time soon, and will become a protagonist for the Azzurrini

Bessa has previously been called up and accepted a call for an Italy u-19 training camp. He didnt cap, though. The problem with Brazil is that he will have a low profile - like someone like Maxwell, you never get a high profile unless you establish your name in Brazil FIRST, then move. Bessa moved too young, he'd have to really REALLY impress to get much chance for Brazil. That's why JJ, for example, was getting quite alot of caps.

Dramatic comeback today against Serbia down 2-0 after 13' min, winning 3-2 Berardi scoring the winner. They needed it because if they lost they were eliminated as things stand now they only need to beat Cyprus on Tuesday to win the group.

The lack of talent at the U21 level is quite alarming.

Bianchetti hasn't played all season for Empoli if I'm not mistaken. Another poor loan move. However, he keeps getting called for the U21 teams as he has for the last few years.

the reason he's always called up is because di biagio has a lot of faith in him. he became the italy u21 captain iirc after caldirola left.

bianchetti seems talented, but he needs regular playing time. The dickheads running our transfer policy send our primavera graduates only to the best team that offers for a loan, irrespective of whether or not there's space in their starting lineup, and whether or not the player is ready for the jump. eg. longo to verona/espanyol, laxalt to bologna, bessa to olhanense, bianchetti to verona/empoli, caldirola to twente - and yet none of those players had more than 10 appearances over an entire fucking season. The most important thing an emerging raw prospect can get is playing time.

It's absolutely ridiculous that we've sent players from the primavera (a division largely composed of future amateur footballers) to the top league in Italy, Spain, or the Netherlands, and expect them to start right away. It's incredibly rare for a player to make the transition without the bridge of (eg) Serie B or Serie C football.

Inter Babies Watch:

Italy's U21 went through after a 3-1 victory over Slovakia. (4-2 aggregate)

Crisetig played 20 minutes in the first leg and full 90 in the second leg at home.
Bardi & Biraghi started and finished both games.
Longo came on as a time wasting substitution in Slovakia and then again in Italy (75 minutes) to score the third goal.

Italy paid the price for poor finishing and a defensive error as the Under-21 side lost a friendly 1-0 to Denmark.

Both these nations have qualified for the European Under-21 Championship, which will be held in the Czech Republic in June 2015.

The Azzurrini had the better of the first half in Matera, forcing several saves to deny Andrea Belotti, Domenico Berardi and Samuele Longo.

Hjulsager had the first real Danish chance of the game on the hour mark, but ballooned over the bar from a very promising position.

Marcello Trotta forced a fingertip save out of the goalkeeper from six yards as Cristian Battocchio pulled back from the byline.

It was Denmark who broke the deadlock in the final minutes. Sassuolo defender Luca Antei gave away possession in midfield to spark a counter, finished off by Nicolai Brock-Madsen’s angled drive.

Inter’s 17-year-old forward Federico Bonazzoli made his Under-21 debut and had a good chance, but his shot was straight at the goalkeeper, while Trotta’s acrobatic volley was deflected over the bar in stoppages.

This was the second friendly defeat of 2014 for the Azzurrini after a 2-1 in Romania in August.

In the European Championship, Italy will be in Group B along with England, Portugal and Sweden.

Denmark are in Group A with Serbia, Germany and the Czech Republic.

Italy 0-1 Denmark

Scorers: Brock-Madsen 82 (D)

Italy U21: Bardi; Zappacosta, Antei, Bianchetti, Biraghi (Murru 73); Viviani (Goldaniga 79), Crisetig, Dezi (Trotta 58); Belotti (Bonazzoli 84), Longo (Battocchio 57), Berardi (Benassi 73)

Denmark U21: Jensen; Scholz, Okore, Banggaard, Knudsen; Hjulsager (Norgaard 69), L V Christensen (J Andersen 46), A Christensen, Toutouh; Falk (J Jonsson 79), Berggreen (Brock-Madsen 46)
