He's been excellent but extending him is a tough business decision. If I were the management I'd leave this entirely up to the coach, if we're talking a +1 deal. If it's more then unfortunately we may have to pass.

Don't forget that the World Cup of 2022 will be a very long international break in November/December. It's going to affect us a lot.

I'm suspicious he is in better shape due to the new contracts he wants (here or elsewhere), and next year will not be at this high level.
It's his last big contract after all.

He's in excellent shape, because he's always been a top notch professional. He has always been one of the most phyiscally ready players in our squad and has always been up to the task in big games. Now he finally also started playing well in those smaller games. I would gladly extend a further season if he was up for that, as there is very little probability that we find a better replacement considering the budget situation.

In our current situation it's better to extend him in a 1+1 year deal worth 3-3.5m salary. That way even if we try to go 4-3-3 for the next season we won't need to make many changes to achieve that.

I've read on twitter that CDS saying he told the club he won't renew. Any truth to this? I couldn't find anything on CDS twitter account.

Read the same. That would be good for both the club and Ivan. He's always wanted out. But he has returned and served us with utmost professionalism. He'll be 33 next year. Quality will still be there but not sure if he can still play week in and out at this intensity anymore. When he leaves for free, that'd also mean we offload his salary. If anything let's hope Dimarco will learn as much as he could from Perisic this season. Forza Ivan and grazie per tutto.

He needs to move to a contender there in order to do that.

Real Madrid won't sign him, maybe Atletico could find a spot for him. Barcelona is a mess.

I don't see an English club with legit chances (Liverpool, Chelsea, City) making a move for him.

Boss.

He is 32 now, so he has maybe a couple of years at top level. Leaving us for free next summer would mean getting very good salary at his new club. I would not blame him if he decides to leave.

I'm sure this post will age poorly, but Perisic strikes me as the type who cares about his legacy. I don't think he'd join Milan, and I doubt they'd be willing to offer him high wages.

I'll never forget Perisic laughing during pregame warm-ups after Milan drew Benevento on a goal from their keeper.

If it's about money EPL and probably Newcastle is a possible destination. But if he wants trophies he needs to be consistently good all season to interest bigger clubs.

He's probably the player in our squad with the most successful career, when you take into account NT and clubs. It's worth having champions like that. And being 32, 33--it's not the same as 10 years ago.

If he wants to leave then he wants to leave, but if there is a chance to keep him they should try imo What he's been showing these last few years, in a role/position where we are, currently and historically, in dire need of a top player... it justifies the contract imo

Unless they have some new Theo Hernandez lined up...
