Conte's first summer here, he used Perisic as a striker in his formation. There were some reports he refused to play wingback. Regardless, he ended up getting shipped to Bayern before the season.

Then he came back as a wingback the following year.

As shown:

He said he was "satisfied" when asked about him specifically. Not exactly glowing, but far less stern than after last match. The quote:

"In this system Ivan can play as a striker, but now we’ll need to evaluate him in the next few games as well, starting against Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday. We’ll keep experimenting like we did today because that’s the right thing to do. I’m certainly satisfied with his performance today, like I am with everyone else, because he interpreted situations well and did what I’d asked. We will continue to work with him in this late aspect as well." (link)

The "right now" is an interesting wiggle word. Kind of a hedge to an otherwise harsh comment. If Perisic stays I am confident we will see him deployed at wing back by Conte at some point in the future.

BTW he did find a decent amount of wide space vs Rube. Not a totally different look than what we've seen from him the past seasons.

Just watched the highlights of both legs PSV vs Rubentus and Ivan played like in UCL finals!

What a motivation hahaha, he was always asking for the ball conducted a personal vendetta against the serial cheaters. What a joy to watch!
