Wait, Benitez's name is being thrown around here?
And as for Mourinho sure, he's a great coach but why are you guys overlooking the fact that he did
NOT won the EPL last season? You'd probably blame it on Chelsea's injuries, but take a look at our own injury list currently. Remember how Chelsea started this season as well? Mancini's Inter is at the top of Serie A; Mourinho's Chelsea was languishing at mid-table.
I don't wanna turn this into a Mancini v Mourinho debate but neither of them is perfect. It is only fair that you look at both coaches' pros and cons instead of concentrating at Mancini's weakness and Mourinho's strengths.
My 'affection' for Mourinho is because of his categoric preparations for any game, more than anything.
Scouting dossiers on the entire team - every player gets a dossier on the player he's up against, they all get dossiers on the key players/ in form players... They spend all week developing tactics JUST to combat that one team's weaknesses.
As crespo said against Fenerbache recently... 'I don't know much about them, except they have Roberto Carlos and Alex'...
I mean, wtf?
We're fighting for Champions League points off this other team and you dont even know anything about them? It's not a god damn friendly.
My affection for Benitez is, despite his poor league form, due to his ability in the champions league. He turned what is, really, a very average Liverpool side into european champions against much stronger teams, where he tactically outsmarted them by neutralizing their key strengths (e.g. against Barcelona just last season), and not only that, but he did it two years in three.
If nothing else, that deserves great respect.
I don't think if Benitez came (not that I seriously suggest he will) we'd do much better in the league, but I'm fairly confident we'd do a bit better in the champions league, and ultimately, he would encourage the sort of signings that would result in our possible success, e.g. a more attacking midfielder, say Diego, or Quaresma (Who he's a big fan of)...
Mourinho would be entertaining as the Inter coach - I'd be looking forward to his press comments more than the actual games, haha.
