So I heard Januzaj who wasn't called up for the Euros wants to join Kosovo's NT.
:yao:

They should give him all the middle fingers they can spare.

Happy for you guys :) It must have meant a lot. Pardon my ignorance though, but how is this different from the Albanian NT?

Just a kind reminder that please no politics discussion here. Thanks.

Albanians live in Kosovo and Albania. Kosovo got it independence in 2008 and until now wasn't accepted in UEFA & FIFA. So players from Kosovo played for Albania and other countries cause of that.

tldr: 1 nation, 2 countries.

Why don't you guys just make it 1 nation, 1 country?

That's where things go into a more political aspect. You can expect that to happen if Kosovo & Albania merge together, but that's unlikely due to Europe & USA not favoring it. Even our governments don't favor it. They often say we'll be together in Europe. There were also efforts to merge the Kosovo and Albanian leagues together but ultimately it wasn't done. UEFA wasn't fan of that either.

Economically I think it makes sense for Kosovo to be in UEFA & FIFA on their own. It allows us to improve our infrastructure more and also gives the chance to more local players to get their names out there.

Is it the same case with Macedonia? I'm asking cause I have two friends who are from a city called gostivar in Macedonia, but they don't seem to bother whether they're addressed as Macedonian or Albanian.

The secretary of Kosovo FA said that there have been contacts with Januzaj and he is very interested in representing Kosovo.

Wait, so you can re-select the NT you wish to represent?
None of that Diego Costa never represented Brazil in an official FIFA match level, that kind of rules/restrictions?

say if catalonia becomes accepted in fifa, spanish players(related to catalonia) can choose to represent catalonia, because they didnt have that option when they made the choice.

This is a different situation. Januzaj for example picked Belgium because at that time Kosovo wasn't accepted in FIFA & UEFA. It's similar to when Yugoslavian players were able to switch their national teams.

For anyone interested, the Kosovo Football Federation has sent invites to the likes of Shaqiri, Xhaka, Januzaj, Behrami etc. to be part of the Kosovo representation. Some of the families of the players have commented for local papers saying that they need assurances from the federation that they can do such request to FIFA to change their national team. They most likely don't want to send the request only to find out they couldn't request, cause that way they can ruin their chances of playing with their current national teams as well.

Also some players have already done the switch, for e.g. Rashica who had only played friendlies for Albania. For anyone that doesn't know, Rashica is considered a big talent and Napoli has looked into buying him in the last 2 transfer windows.

Our first official match is on 5th of September vs Finland for World Cup qualifiers.

I have an employee/friend, he's from south Serbia ( Lugina ) he's Albanian though, and he tells me a lot about Rashica, he's really good I saw some highlights.
Also, who else from Albanian NT gonna make the switch? My friend told me , Xhaka, Gashi and some other ones will switch too.
I hardly believe the ones who play for Switzerland will make the switch. The famous ones at least. Maybe the bench players will.
Good luck with your qualifiers.

Thanks.

So far only Milot Rashica, Alban Meha, Herolind Shala and Amir Rrahmani have switched from the Albanian NT. Taulant Xhaka and Shkelzen Gashi could switch but personally I don't think that'll happen. We'll have to wait and see. Not sure until when they have time to decide to make their requests.

I could see you guys stealing away Shaqiri (based on his comments during Euros), but Xhaka and Januza I would assume are more unlikely?

I mean, obviously there's a chance, but I'll be stunned if Januza gives up a chance to win the world cup in 2018 to help Kosovo qualify for it.

Januzaj has minimal chance of being part of the Belgium NT. That's why I think it's possible for him to make the switch.
