As a Napoli supporter, I actually found the banner 'partenopei - tuberculosi' quite humourous in that typical macabre curva way of things.
The passionate rivalry, supporters input and terrace humour are not slowing creeping out of the game; they are being seriously man-handled in most vile of manners.
This must come to a head before the Italian game becomes the funeral parlour atmosphere akin to most Premiership games.........

Thank you Serpico... I think the Northern bigwigs in the FA got more insulted than the Napoletans themselves - I'm sure we will get a fair shair of insults on the return leg anyway.

Agreed. The 'power that be' continue to ruin the Italian game. It's depressing to see ridiculous bans handed out after every weekend. More and more 'high-risk' games are being played without away supporters, making a mockery of the traditional battles like Roma-Napoli, Rubentus-Fiorentina, etc etc.... Fukcin inept fools are just poisoning calcio further instead of helping it.

To me, thats what football is all about. Ancient rivalries handed down through generations, endless taunting and abusing over regional/inter city feuds that often superseded football itself.
Travelling to games as an away fan always had that edge......like setting foot on foreign soil. Take it away and you'll lose the passion for both the travelling fan, and the home fans that await them. Thus we'll be left with empty soulless stadiums.

Surely the TV companies wouldnt want that............

Good post mate. You always bring good knowledge to FI.

BTW how did you come to support Napoli? Is your family Neapolitan, did you perhaps fall in love with them due to a certain Argentine in the late 80's, or is it something else?

BRad. The latter mate. Watching calcio in the 80s/early 90s was fantasy stuff for this fella. Napoli of course were one of the top sides, and it was a collection of things basically.......Ma-Gi-Ca, those lunatic supporters, Renica at the back, timewasting ball boys, suspicious characters in the background, all the usual sneaky tricks that normally guaranteed a home victory at the San Paolo.
One of the reasons my heart truly went out to the partenopei was when poor old Julio Cesar, playing for i gobbi ladri at the time, was receiving treatment at the side of the pitch for a suspected broken leg, but the police had to put riot shields over him as the home crowd were lobbing everything and anything towards him. Definitely not politically or mentally correct in a normal society but it shows what lengths they go to to intimidate opposition in order to achieve victory.

What are the odds CN will be able to travel to Turin on the weekend? 1000 to 1?

It's so depressing like that, the first time in history that the CN has been closed. :(
