Hope he stays loyal and keeps playing at a high level for a long time. These players are rare in the modern game.

other than Bayern.... that just paid 100m for Kane...... what big team would want or need him? Man U .... to me isn't a big team just the most marketed and hyped team in the world.

City has a younger and way better player.... well 2 of them.
Barca just make their own
Real is going all in for Mbappe
Liverpool has Nunez that when he adapts will be a monster.
PSG is in a shit league and will go back to being shit once they lose Mbappe for free to Real. Also FK SKrinar

So unless he chases money with an EPL team it's not to go to a better team. At that point its just go to Saudi Arabia and get paid 50x more instead of 2x more.

Real are said to be very interested in him, also there still Arsenal, Chelsea, United and Newcastle, he would have no problem walking straight into the starting lineup in latter 3.

LOL What?
Barca makes their own? That golden generation realy fucked up the perspective on barca and it s youth....
Real is gonna need more than mbappe, also lots of reports that he wants to play on the wing
Lol Nunez dude is 24 and not some kind of prodigy
PSG still has all the cash...
Alvarez way better? In what universe?

If lauti wants the money or thinks he has a better chance of winning CL at any of these clubs than i m quite sure most of them would be happy to pick him up..

But he'd have every problem in migrating to Newcastle, Manchester or London...

I said this 20-30 mins before the end: individual brilliance when they ran out of breath was always going to be our only shot at a result. He def came through

Glad he scored to save the day but in overall he was very poor. Actually I'm most surprised by his approach tonight, because he has that "never give up" attitude. In usual he tends to put in real efforts even when things don't always go his way, but tonight he was completely off.

Hopefully this is just a unfortune event that happens only once. We need him to drag the team forward, keep the group on focus and everything else.

14 goals only is shockingly bad for Inter. Milan's top goalscorer has 29 goals while Juve's has 42 goals. Hopefully Lautaro corrects that.

I agree. These numbers are quite poor, but Lautaro is very likely to overtake both Cruz and Adriano, I'd say already in the group stages though.

We haven't featured as much in the CL in the early years and we were only regulars for like 8 seasons in a row and we hardly had a striker appear for more than 2 seasons for us*. Then another 8 without CL and playing against tougher groups.

The inflated scoring numbers mainly come from Bayern, Real and Barcelona in the late 2000s to late 2010s and the lack of the mid-tier teams in the last 15 years due to Platini's disaster plan, completely ruining the sport and widening the gap between top and middle and top to bottom.

All these guys have featured in more than 10 CL editions and guys like Salah have played in a watered down era where his team can casually pounce 5-0 a team that 15-20 years ago would probably get a point from their time's Liverpoool.

Messi and Cristiano just don't make sense

*Ronaldo half a season really in 1998-99
Milito 2.5 seasons?
Eto'o 2 seasons
Adriano 2.5 seasons?
Vieri 3 seasons but not consecutive iirc and the 3rd was past his prime
Cruz maybe 4 seasons, but as a rotation player mostly
Crespo 3 seasons, but with a break. And his first season he wasn't always there.

Lautaro probably has 5 seasons with this one but he wasn't the main striker apart from the last couple of seasons.

I remember this especially because I wanted Vieri to do well in the CL. But he wasn’t able to replicate his league and national team form in the CL, mostly due to injury and like you said going past his prime. We were just not consistently appearing in the CL enough in the past to get some of these scoring numbers IMO

Yeah just consider that Vieri's prime at Inter was 1999 to 2003.

We played in CL in 1998-99 with Ronaldo (before Vieri)

Then we had Lippi who failed to get us through the groups and lost to Helsinborg...
Our next appearance was in 2002-03 and that's when we started being CL regulars (more CL spots became available and it also was the start of the fall of Fiorentina, Parma, Lazio and other CL spot rivals)

So Vieri played in 2002-3, but missed the semis vs Milan, although Crespo was our main threat.
He played in 2003-4 in a disastrous campaign. And he participated a bit when Adriano was here in 2004-5.

So our best scorer of the 21st century barely played in 3 CL campaigns.
Our second best scorer in Icardi, played in just 1 and had 4 goals in 6 games.

10 years of CL football in a row was shared between an on-off Vieri, an Adriano that had 2 good seasons, a Zlatan that played in just 3 seasons, Milito for 3 seasons, Eto'o for 2 seasons.

Shevchenko played CL football for Milan for 6 years in CL, all of which in his prime. They missed CL only once where we could have played them in the Uefa Cup final but we both lost our semi :D

There were also more games for a 3-4 year period with the 2nd group stage. So a max of 17 games were available, now we're at 13 games max. We missed out on that era apart from one season in 2002-3.

Juventus on the other hand played in CL in every season from 1995-96 until 2005-6, with the exception of 1999-2000. That's a lot of games for Del Piero and Inzaghi to rack up the goals.

If you also look at Barcelona, you'll also see how it pales. You have Messi with an alien 100+ goals but the next in line is Luis Suarez with 25. In an era where they never missed CL.
Then it's Rivaldo with 22, Neymar with 21, Kluivert with 20, Luis Enrique with 19 and Eto'o has just 16 CL goals with them. And Pique has as many CL goals as Ronaldinho with Barcelona at 14!
Rivaldo 6 seasons in a row in CL.
Kluivert 4 seasons in a row in CL, all with a 2nd group stage.

CL historical numbers are not really comparable, you have to do a comparison according to era and type of tournament we had.
Early 1990s to late 90s, different game.
Late 90s to early 2000s, different game.
Mid 2000s to late 2000s, different game.
Early 2010s to late 2010s, different game.
Now, once again, a different game. The monetary gap is just too vast. It was growing in the previous "phase", but it's just so much easier now for "superteams" to form and just beat everyone with ease, so Haaland and Mbappe can probably surpass the two previous freaks.
