The 2 worriest things are the lack of quality of our wings, we are lucky to have Dumfries because hes the only one that can offer something. The other problem is our defence, the conceded goal was a tipical goal we would concede last year. Still the same, still no upgrade..
And how to upgrade your team? Buy better players. That isnt happening. Dont expect from same players to become something more.

somewhere between "our defense sucks" and "Inzaghi doesnt know how to organise a defense", I'm really worried

Culmination of a terrible preseason tonight, and it's all on inzaghi and his staff, imo. Also, this team may be good on paper, but as v said earlier it's severely imbalanced in key areas.

I know i m talking like we didn't win this game with the last seconds winner, but for me, this feels like we lost points tonight.
Exactly. Imbalanced with needed skills also. That's why I think we are only Scudetto contender on paper and not in reality, for now.

But how is that on Inzaghi?

I can certainly agree Inzaghi will be scapegoat in the end.

the decline in form between de vrij, bastoni and skriniar is on inzaghi - look at what conte could do with them, look at what inzaghi can do with them?

What decline? It's the first game of the season in mid-August.

Hmm,not sure there was any decline last season from Bastoni and Skriniar?!? You are the first one I saw saying something like that. De Vrij sure. But this two?

Lautaro was again his usual form and thats pretty bad. I just don’t like a striker when his best attribute is ”hard worker”. I just don’t see where he is good at and why he is so special to our fans? I don’t see him do any harm or give a scare to oposition defence.
He literally assisted for winning goal.

Our defense as a unit is much, much poorer than it was under Conte. On an individual level, yes, De Vrij has regressed a lot, but the lack of rigidity that Inzaghi brings to the team is leaving our defense in a much worse state imho.

I think .h. is talking about the decline in organisation of Bastoni-de Vrij-Skriniar as a unit. They were much tighter & well drilled during Conte's time, it almost seems like the discipline is unravelling with time. Which is not surprising, we know Inzaghi is a more attack focussed coach, organising the defence isn't his strongest suit.

Well, maybe. Probably?! But looking only at goals conceded we still had better season than any of two under Conte. Both in Serie A and in CL despite playing two more matches there with Inzaghi. It's not like it's a complete shitshow with Inzaghi so you can clearly see the difference.

Don't have one.
But how is that on Inzaghi?
I was commenting on preseason part, something went wrong in our preparation, he even admitted we are coming late with our fitness.

He can't play a high line every fuckin game, that's the issue imo. Conte tried that as well with the current defense, and we leaked goals like crazy, then when he switched to more measured counterattacking football everything kinda clicked. Those three towers in defense are not suited for the football inzaghi wants, that's why he sacrificed bastoni last night, he saw those two fast midgets in lecce attack and the pacey big forward and immediately nope the fuck out, and even with those adjustments we got caught.

Those high line tactics are still mostly working though, it will get us a win in a lot of games, but over the 38 games i m not sure it's sustainable at all in a scuddetto run.

I know, but the unit just feels much shakier and less reliable than it did historically you know what I mean? I felt under Conte that they were a pillar of the team you could rely on, whereas now, I feel like there's uncertainty, confusion, and mistakes

That Dortmund game felt less shaky indeed

Now with Inzaghi attack should be pillar of the team but that was not the case yesterday. Maybe only cause of fitness issue this early in the season? We will see.

I feel like our defense was most of the time good enough last season when we needed. Against Lecce and this bottom teams it's understandable full focus is on attack so there can be mistakes at the back, especially in transition. It's still so early to tell anything more and drew some bigger conclusions.

That's the infamous rigid structure of conte game plan that our players hated, and they even somewhat admitted it when conte left.
You never saw midfielders changing positions several times during the game under conte, because conte was a maniac who wanted his players to play like he controlled them on a video game, inzaghi is the polar opposite.

And I guess when you take out that structure and introduce free flowing football, three big defenders who were contained and whose weaknesses were masked under that same rigid system are going to suffer the most.

People have amnesia, man. Begging Conte to come back when we literally drew against them in our last encounter.

Why I miss Conte:

- The hard work & discipline on the pitch - everyone worked just a little bit harder under Conte

- The exact same defence looked so much better drilled & organised under Conte

- Conte wouldn't have allowed Perisic to leave without a proper reinforcement. He would have raised hell publicly, most likely Perisic wouldn't have left if Conte was still here. Inzaghi is is a bit of a management pet. I bet Gosens would've had a better game yesterday if Inter had kept Perisic or brought in Udogie or Kostic. Competition for places is sometimes underrated. Look at Brahim Diaz. He probably had his best game for Milan, just when Milan bought CDK & Adli to give him some competition.

- Conte knew how to use Lukaku, building his team to exploit Lukaku's strengths. Inzaghi is trying to fit Lukaku in his system, a bit like what Tuchel tried to do at Chelsea. I hope it works as Lukaku is familiar with Martinez, Barella & Co, but so far it isn't working well despite the goal. Its too early to judge, but there is a fear that Lukaku may not have the same success at Inter as before.

I could go on, but you get the gist...

For what it’s worth, we conceded more goals in both of Conte’s seasons than we did last year.

Either you’re being extremely harsh on Inzaghi, looking at Conte’s time here through rose-tinted glassets (not regarding the championship, of course), or buying into the image of him being a tough-as-nails coach with an orientation towards defensive solidity.

Whatever it is, the numbers simply don’t reflect the fact that we’ve apperently somehow gone from a world class defense and organization to bumbling idiots under Inzaghi.
