I've been to both cities and the logical move, if Messi leaves Barcelona, is City.
We should close this thread for over.

Thats an even bigger step back. Man city is a nobody club in a city with miserable weather.

Man City is nobody club in a shit city compared with both Barcelona and Milano.
But they have Pep, a good team and a lot of money. If Messi leaves Barcelona, he will leave for a club run by a person he trust, where he has most chances to win CL again. Because in this moment is all he cares in his age. Not a "progetto".
After a few years, when he retreats, he can settle wherever the fuck he wants, doing whatever the fuss he wants. It worth enduring the shit City and the shit city of Manchester.

You realize that these people have families right?

You also realize that no high profile Argentinean ever settled in Manchester? Veron, Tevez, Di Maria... No one else tried really. And they were all in their 20s. And they also played for Man Utd.

It's not a real option for them. Guardiola is the only thing that could attract him there but he's also considering to leave that place when his contract runs, how can Messi trust him based on that? And Messi probably doesn't leave before his contract runs anyway, so by that time there probably won't be a Guardiola in freaking Manchester.

Aside from aguero and romero?
The same ageuro also that Messi is practically best mates with. Don't they always share rooms when on Argentina duty

Aguero is the only one, true. Forgot about him as much as history will forget him because he wasted his career at Manchester fucking City :D

Demichelis didn't do badly did he? Zabaleta and agreed obviously too. Otamendi I thought was doing OK.

Heinze at United? Tevez loved Manchester rnough to move to another Manchester club...

Just on the topic of aguero, I watched that city documentary all or nothing. Felt bad for him, his life looks depressing as fuck. He is incredibly quiet and speaks to like 2 people at city he said, otamendi and someone else. Also lives completely alone and his son comes over every few months. Completely off topic but surprised me.

Have you ever been to Barcelona?
Have you ever been to Manchester?

If the player moves, he'll choose a winning project where he can express his game the best - that's City, by a landslide. The brief lack of residence appeal of Manchester will barely factor into it. Barcelona is likely to remain his home indefinitely, much like Pep himself. Messi could conceivably play up to another 5 seasons at an elite level which means it'll be like a retirement tour

Of all the criteria the player is likely to prioritize, locale won't matter. He can visit Italy all the time, like he has for decades

English football is a totally different compared to La Liga. I don't see Messi going there because he won't be protected and will be tackled dosens times per game.

I actually don't see Messi leaving Barca. He likes to stay in safety environment.

You're only advertising your ignorance if you assert he has been 'protected' in the Primera

You must have missed the HIGH PROFILE part.

Demichelis, Zabaleta, Otamendi, Heinze... not high profile.

For them that was a good career move, not a lifestyle choice. They wouldn't have found the same salary, squad and role at another club. Guys like Tevez, Aguero, Di Maria and Veron had options but they went there for the hype and money. Only Aguero stuck around and that's because the team sort of was built around him and he wasn't very ambitious himself. Maybe he felt restricted and didn't want to join a top club in Spain because he loved his time at Atletico, who knows. But he remains the only high profile player to stick around at Manchester. It feels like a sad case with him and he doesn't really care much about his surroundings. Messi appears like that, but he isn't like that.

The PL has some butchers, yeah, but it doesn't have a systematic injury causing machine that you see in Spain, Italy and most of all, France. The thing about the PL is that they have a lot of sloppy players and they may cause career ending injuries, usually by accident. It's not a tough league as much as they like to advertise it as such. It isn't the 90s anymore where 85% of the players were lumberjacks. Now it's more like 20% and most of those don't even get called up :D

EPL has such a high tempo that Messi's inability to press might be a problem for him (or the coach). Part of his magic is he doesn't run that much when he doesn't have the ball and/or team isn't attacking. He can do those bursts of speed because of that. He needs to save energy. That will affect the rest of the team obviously, it's at trade-off for his god-tier skills he brings in. Dunno if it would fit to EPL football. Maybe Guardiola could get build the game system around Messi, but like said, Guardiola might be on his way out after his contract runs out.

Just watched a highlight video of this guy. I really liked his goals against Valladolid. But can he do it on a cold rainy night in Milan?

It's not a big problem if only one don't press. It's a trade-off, as you say. But Messi brings also a lot to the table. And the City usually set-up with wingers suits Messi like a glove. He is still the best passer in the game. As a false 9, flanked by likes Sterling or Silva, he will thrive

i'd tend to agree. I think 'contra'-style can work very well - Young, for example, or Lukaku in the league have been really good for us, but a slower tempo in the PL might not. I know Messi and Veron are VERY different players, but he might suffer from some of the same things that really made Veron struggle in the Premiership. Honestly, Italy could give him a greatt last swansong for his career - he could easily do 3-4-5 good seasons here, and make a huge impact in that time

epl definitely requires a different type of conditionin than la liga or serie a

younger messi would be fine but current messi who probably has some lingering injuries by now and fitness level isnt the same would break down quicker

Okay, so you're not coming after all.

Lock the thread, we're going for Giroud instead.
