I hope he stay for another season. That way Inter has a very good chance signing him for free next summer, when Conte is most likely gone as well. Only his salary remains a challenge, but at least there'll be no talk of transfer fee anymore. Hate to see him anywhere else beside Barca or Inter. Fuck City!

I'm seeing some done deal with Man City reports filtering out through social media. Looking forward to closing this.

Bro, are you serious? English tabloids are fucking trash. They make up any crap they want.

Better wait for some 3rd party sources.

The news was from BBC so I thought it might be legit.

BBC has a page where they link to tabloid gossip. That's the daily gossip column. Ignore that. Other actual articles on the BBC are reputable.

I don't care who's putting them out or if they're reliable, they just are.

Now a fun question.

Would you endure 10 years of hell with Moratti after treble, like Mazzarri kind of hell but be able to finally sign Messi after the 10 years?

Jorge Messi has released a statement saying that what La Liga said about Leo Messi's contract isn't true. According to the contract, the 700m euros release clause is not valid after the 19/20 season.

Yeah this will end with an agreement reached around 100 million probably which City will pay to Barcelona...or even give them a player since they literally have too many. That obviously rules us out once and for all considering our current financial situation

Fabrizio Romano: Messi wants to leave for free. Man City are waiting because they can’t afford the €700m clause - just negotiation involving players or signing Leo for free as he’s convinced to win the legal battle against Barcelona. Still same position by Barça: “The €700m clause is valid”.

Barca and la liga salty. Messi's father even cited the specific section of the contract

And barca have themselves in hot water for how they are terminating other contracts without compensation. It will mean they are being prejudicial in their treatment of messi vs the others (Vidal, Suarez, Rakitic, Umtiti etc).

Too bad we didn't have a normal length summer where this would play out appropriately. Now it's too tight. Season starts in 1-2 weeks for most places

TBH it depends entirely on how the clause in the contract is written

'Termination may be provided by notice no later than the 10th of June of each season' means that Messi has missed the window. 'Termination may be provided by notice no later than one week after the last competitive match of the season' means Messi is fine.

This will get into lawyers arguing about the spirit of the clause versus the letter of the clause, and at some point it'll go to arbitration or ECHR to decide if the spirit or the letter wins.

Problem is, a lot of these contracts arent drawn up with things like COVID in mind, tbh. Look at all the issues around TV rights - broadcasters saying they were promised X many games, etc etc. I'm sure a lot of this will be drawn out for a while to resolve all compensation and penalty clauses.

Which is why I think either Messi will move for a transfer fee or stay. I think staying is quite unlikely because it means he'd gone through all this public stuff - and he's not gonna go to a top club in a year's time unless he performs really well, unless he really thinks he can go till he's 38 or 40. Now is the time to move

And despite that statement, the latest is he's going to stay.

He's just trying to prove a point. That him staying is his decision and not anyone else's. Reality is he's afraid of going the court route because he's probably lose this season and a lot of money.

Romano -Leo Messi to make it official: he’s going to stay at Barcelona on next season after the club refusing to sell him for less than €700m.

Biggest losers: Barcelona, Messi's image/reputation

Biggest winners: Reporters and media

Bartomeu also is among the winners. He's going to the elections with the narrative he prevented a Messi exit.

Dunno he needs to pay Messi 50m€ net salary + 70m€ loyalty bonus at the end of the season. And then the best player of the world walk away for free.

But yeah elections are in March. No worry that Bartomeu will win though.
