No such thing as a backup. This isn't the goalkeeper. We have 5 subs, that's 50% of the starting players getting replaced. And we have 50-56 games a season.
Yeah, i know but we will need at least 2 new forwards (hopefully 3), replacement of Frattesi, Mkhitaryan and probably Asllani. Replacement of Acerbi or De Vrij. New Dalbert isn't the most urgent thing but maybe the management saw something in him

Sucic is one of them.
I don't think Mkhitaryan is gone, he'll play at least another season which he's already under contract for. I think he'll try to squeeze 3 more years out of a career but can't tell at what level.
We'll see if Frattesi goes, can't tell for sure that he's on the offload list.

We do need a RWB because we're crippled everytime Dumfries is unavailable. Zalewski may cover that, but not as effectively as on the left, and we already have 2 options + Bastoni on that side. So Zalewski redemption isn't likely either.

I agree on strikers and I'm convinced we'll land Jonathan David to be #3. Taremi probably stays as #4 as we won't be able to sell him.

And if Acerbi can stay at the top of his game for another season, we can postpone the CCB search. Maybe Palacios or Bisseck get in proper form for that and we save money.

So I'd say we need someone at this role.

I want another player that can deliver on the wing. On the left we at least have Carlos Augusto, who already played more than 1800 minutes this season.

Another RWB is needed.

We need several players for several positions. That's because the club failed to rejuvenate and strengthen the squad in the past transfer windows and we have to address all of them in the coming summer now. Frattesi and Taremi has to go no matter what.

I don't think anyone has an issue with the role. Darmian is way past it as a wingback and we need someone to give competition to Dumfries. The issue people have with this rumour is the price. We're reportedly willing to spend 30m on a wingback when there are bigger needs in the squad.

Did we suddenly become rich and we missed the memo? :D

Rumors are suggesting we actually do have a bit of a war chest for the summer. I read something like 70mil to spend a couple months ago, and that was before we played CL round of 16. It could be presumably be higher with further CL progress and some player sales like Frattesi and Asllani, maybe others. If we hypothetically have 100+ million euro to spend, a 30mil reinforcement we desperately need isn’t a bad decision if he actually comes good.

We haven’t seen this type of situation in forever though so it’s hard to actually picture, but I’m hopeful. This squad is desperate for a rejuvenation.

Honestly I wasn't impressed from the highlights, which often make players greater than they actually are. This one looks mediocre even in the highlights.
I think we need to keep Zalewski and rotate him between RWB and LWB depending on the need and invest the $$ and get real striker. Osimen for example.

I've missed that memo, only thing I've seen is we're valuing him at 22-25M. I see the point of this kind of transfer. Wingbacks are important in our system. They need to be top notch, they need to be active, in the game, running all the time. Darmian has been a great player for us, but it needs to end now. He can't provide enough of what we need.

PS. 1: Our finances are at much better state than let's say two years ago.

PS 2: I would redeem Zalewski to be a handyman for both flanks. He's so cheap with that option we have there.

Yes, redeem Zalewski and also buy a player like Luis Henrique. With that we have the chance for Carlos Augusto to be first option off the bench for both Bastoni and Dimarco, while Zalewski might be a totally different player this time next season and I'd rather give him a chance than not.

Yes, Dimarco and Augusto at left, Dumfries and Luis Henrique at right, with Zalewski as an option for both sides sounds as great depth. Assuming this Luis Henrique guy is a good player, as I’ve never seen him play.

I'm not sure about Zalewski. He is cheap and on a low salary, but he seems kind a dumb to me. He often takes very weird decisions.
In Bayern's game for example, he was near sideline vs 2 opponents. He has beaten the first onе, and instead to pass to Barella who was few meters away, he decided to try to beat the other one as well.
He often ignores open passing lines in favor of just hugging the ball for no reason. I'm also concern that he barely crosses the ball as I cannot recall even a single occasion of that.
I hope him to start 1 or 2 games till the end of the season in order to get a full picture of his qualities

We can buy two new players for 40m euros each on 5 year, 4m euros a season contracts and the squad cost next season would be virtually identical thanks to Arnautovich and Correa leaving. If Frattesi leaves for 30m then we add 12m in capital gains plus his 5m wage, so another 17, which buys us roughly two Luis Henriques (assuming 25m transfer and 3.5m wage).

This is before any net amount is added to the budget which it surely will considering the money they are bringing in in the CL and will do the CWC.

I've always followed the rule of thumb of having two players for each specific position plus one spare to provide a broad back up, thus an extra keeper, defender, midfielder and attacker to give you a 26 man squad. I don't think that they need more than 6 central defenders so the defender slot should go to a wing back as that is a position of higher physical stress.

Zalewski would fit the profile of a fifth man well. He can play both sides, he would not be expensive and as any sort of role would be a step up from Roma then he would not be agitating for a bigger involvement.

Also Augusto is effectivly one of the backline defenders (so it's still six players there) and one of the five wingbacks. Just like Darmian can play both.

Sure. But he also just came here and for 6-7M is probably worth to try and see can he be moulded better to what Inzaghi want of him and what we need.

That's what I wanted us to do with Bellanova cause that option was also cheap but we didn't. Like with Bellanova,it's clearly something there with Zalewski too. With Buchanan for example I never saw anything.

Zalewski is also the similar age as Bellanova was when he was here. He is 1.5 year younger.

ill take zalewski, is cheap and inzaghi could turn him into a decent player and also could be used for future plusvalenza. we should have players that we don't mind selling.
