Feel free to move this thread, if it's in the wrong place.

MLS starts next month. LAFC is the newest team to begin play. Managed by Bob Bradley and with some real zingers on their team. Meanwhile, Toronto FC are the defending champions having won both the Supporters Shield (European-style champions/best record) and the MLS Cup (American-style champions/winners of a post-season tournament). Sporting KC are the defending U.S. Open Cup (domestic cup) champions.

I hope to get some newcomers or vaguely interested side-glancers to start watching, this season. LA Galaxy are the former glamour team, most titles, one of two MLS teams to have won the CONCACAF Champions League, known for signing any major, over-the-hill, European player and are currently in a major rut, basically Inter. Toronto FC is a raging bull that gores the competition, basically Juventus.

The league is getting better and better every year. The organizers and leaders are corrupt fuckheds, but it's good to see the league, its fans and its reputation slowly grow.

New York Cosmos have been the NASL's most staunch supporters, but I think their admin might migrate to the USL, as will Miami FC.

It's a real shame. Corruption sunk this league, once again. The rule of the land states, if you don't play but the MLS' rules, you're gonna be dead.

Sounds like Cincy has beaten out Detroit and Sacramento for an expansion team bid. Too bad.

Detroit's non-league team would've went crazy if an MLS team showed up.

why do US leagues let Canadian teams but not mexican teams? I mean for soccer I get it.... but for everything else? Baseball, Basketball, Hockey(weren't Canadians better at hockey till the 80s?)......

is it because Mexicans aren't white for the most part? Its always bothered me that Canadians have teams in all the leagues but Connecticut and a lot of other states don't.

I also hate the fact that no matter how shit a team is they dont get demoted in any of the leagues. I use to go to Cleveland a lot for work and was told the team hadn't won in like 3 years haha and no one goes to the games. If it was a South American or European soccer league Cleveland browns would be in 4th division by now

As I've said before, US sports is merely a business. The cities and states with the biggest market gets a team, and Canada isn't big enough to sustain a profitable league, so they tend to join American leagues. Of course, there is Canadian leagues but not nearly as popular as the ones based in the U.S.

As for the reason why U.S. sports don't have relegation, see the paragraph above.

The reason Mexico doesn't have a baseball team is in part due to the altitude.

It's mostly due to a lack of interest. Baseball has a strong following in Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Cuba etc. etc.

Mexico actually has its own league. Same as Colombia and most Latin America . Just it’s not super popular as soccer.

In general it’s annoying another country has a team
And the state I live in doesnt

Day 1 of the first MLS game day is complete. Only 5 games, or less than half the league, actually played today. More games tomorrow, and some teams playing their first games next week.

Philadelphia Union defeats New England
Columbus defeats, reigning MLS and Canadian-domestic champions, Toronto FC
Houston Dynamo defeats Atlanta United
D.C. United defeats Orlando City

1 other game in progress.
