Theres more defending going on outside my window on the playground right now, than in this joke of a league. It looks like players have in their contracts that they cant touch the midget.

Going full Alex Jones conspiracy mode, huh? Maybe the league is devoid of defensive quality. Why wouldn't Messi want to play in a league like this?

Because he should come back to Europe.

Its not a conspiracy that the defending in the league is bad.. messi can play wherever he wants, i dont have a problem with that.

The more Messi scores, the more attention MLS will get.

It doesn't matter if Messi scores against the mentally handicapped, people who can't think for themselves will still be in 'awe' and starstruck.

They're selling to a crowd that's addicted to "points" and don't care about how they come. Look at the NBA. I could even play there and score 20 points now in some game. It's become rather easy. Yet the players that score still get the hype as well as the entire league. Only side effect is that people who bother about the quality are abandoning that. Yet, there's more people who flock in because they either don't understand quality or don't mind it as long as there is more scoring by the "superstars".

Football is no different.

You can say how MLS has shitty defences, but the goals Messi scored in his last two games are such beauties and well placed shots, only legends like him can score these so often.

I think this is a very special moment in time for all soccer fans, this final stretch of Messi's career. His decision to go to MLS was very interesting, but as I see the reports on doubling of Apple TV subs since he joined Miami and I see him hoist that cup the other night... Seems to me that what he is doing is re-launching the US league.

And that game. I am aware that it was a lower level of football but that was a hell of a game.

Anyway I think by the time he's done Miami's value will be off the charts and they'll have half of South America in their pocket.

They could also buy players from Argentina and flip them to EPL for double the money. It's doable!

Precisely what Argentine football needs - what's left of their best players plying their trade in North America.

Not trying to be snide, this is just another step in football capitalism.

Yeah, well that is one thing Americans seem to love. Just look at Boehly at Chelsea

(And yeah, I'm annoyed as well)

I wish just watching Inter would sate my love of football. I'd be a lot more productive.

What I find ironic about many comments I see from fans of other leagues is that MLS has the kind of constraints in spending built into it that European league fans say that they want.

Take the PL for example. You have a handful of teams exercising the evil of "football capitalism" who are owned by very deep pockets and who are mostly safe from fear of relegation. Even the most incompetent asswipes running a team like say Tottenham or Man Utd will still finish in the top ten based purely on the quality of players due to spending. Spending is vastly different top to bottom and if you look at how many teams have won the league and compare the leagues MLS is off to a very good start.

The US fucks a lot of shit up. But one thing I think we do right is salary caps. It is that effect where all teams have a chance to rise that the NFL has built their empire on. Some teams inevitably do it better than others, some are completely incompetent (ahem Cleveland) but in general parity is what you lose when you see the rise in "football capitalism."

All my friends root for one PL team or another. Some of them only watch PL. And no matter how I might try to point this out to them they are in denial of the truth which is that most of them root for top 6 type teams that are perennially in the mix. Every one of them looks down their nose at MLS, in the same way all fans of European leagues do.
