Damn this shit dead.

Chicago Fire mutilated 4-0 and are out of the Playoffs after their first run since 2012. Toronto is clearly gonna get to the final.

I still think people rag on MLS a little too much. It's shit, but not that bad. Not even on the same level as other major leagues, but for some reason people on both sides of the Atlantic try to compare it to other leagues. It's only 20 years old, and is catering to the 5th biggest sport in the country. It's gonna be a really long time before this shit gets anywhere near EU standards.

Giovinco is doing pretty well. Some claim he should get his chance in the national team, I agree as someone who is good in set pieces might prove useful but the coach doesn't seem to be considering him.

Giovinco deserves better. He got the shaft from Conte for playing in the MLS despite proving that he can play in Europe, anywho. I'd be pissed if I were him. Especially since Conte not-so-subtly said that playing in the MLS will lead to consequences. I'm glad the Spanish manager could over-look that, and see an in-form player. The MLS has brought David Villa a seasoned renaissance, and his national call-up proves it.

Too easy to make jokes. They Americanize it with a playoff, draft and more. Some argue having no relegation has set the tone for no urgency and it's why the USMNT is not in. When I attended a game, everyone just wore their favorite club team in Europe or Mexico.

The U.S. is too big to not have playoffs. The geography of the country just doesn't allow a single system. I wouldn't consider it "Americanizing" as much as a good way not to rub the players and teams into rubble trying to fly all over the country to play. I find the draft to be a rather good institution. It bridges the gap between the academies and the MLS.

As for the relegation - I agree that's a massive issue. There's no grassroot engagement by the USSF or MLS. Hell, you need to pay $10,000 just to register for a license to play in the 4th tier. A tier that the USSF doesn't recognize. There used to be 3 tiers, but now there's a joint 2nd tier. It's fucking sad. I would love for the current president to be kicked out in the next elections and have a president that is committed to grassroot architecture.

I live some 40/1 hour away from Toyota Park (Fire's home grounds). If this was England or any other proper football country my side of the city would have it's own club. It just ain't happening.

The sports culture in America is way too fucked. It's a corporation, not a grassroot representation of a community's values. Not even other sports have localized clubs. It's depressing, but I'm hoping for a change.

Good, the more the merrier. Hopefully the NFL/NBA/NHL/MLB threads get revitalized

Andrea Pirlo retires, after an almost tear-jerking comeback. NYCFC were very close to getting ahead on aggregate, but the task was too much. Shed a few tears that my favorite of all time couldn't raise silverware one more time.

Not the first time an MLS team played with the idea. Toronto was almost Inter Toronto, and a few others played with it too.

I like it. Not a fan of those nasty colors, and surprised they didn't go for alligators for the mascot.
