Report: Benassi close to Genoa
Fiorentina midfielder Marco Benassi is reportedly close to joining Serie A rivals Genoa.
According to Michele Criscitello for Sportitalia and Tuttomercatoweb, Benassi is not suited to Vincenzo Montella’s style of play.
That would have let in Genoa, who are in the market for midfield reinforcements, as seen by their pursuits of Gerson and Ismael Bennacer.
The 24-year-old joined Fiorentins from Torino in the summer of 2017 for €12m and has gone on to play 73 times, scoring 14 goals and providing eight assists.
I guess "our boy" is not motivated by the chance of joining Genoa [can`t blame him, seems like a step down]:
Fiorentina midfielder Marco Benassi has denied that he is close to joining Genoa. “I haven’t given even half-a-second’s thought to leaving...”
Benassi reportedly did not fit into Vincenzo Montella’s plans for next season, prompting Genoa to swoop in.
However, the 24-year-old has travelled with Fiorentina for preseason, where he made it clear he would not be changing clubs ‘on my own free will’.
“I haven’t given even half-a-second’s thought to leaving,” he said at a Press conference.
“I talked to the directors about my future and I reiterated my thoughts: that I’d never leave on my own free will because I want to prove that Fiorentina have other objectives.
“I haven’t encountered many problems under Montella. In terms of midfield, things haven’t changed that much.”
