Livaja began his career at Croatian side NK Omladinac Vranjic, before moving to the Dinamo Zagreb Academy in 2008. He stayed there for 2 years before moving to Dinamo's rival the Hajduk Split Academy in 2010. In the same year, he was promoted to the full Hajduk team. Later that year, he was sold to F.C. Internazionale Milano Primavera for an approximate fee of £158,400 (€185 580). In 2011, he was loaned out to Swiss side FC Lugano.
Internationally, Livaja scored seven goals in 20 appearances for the Croatia national under-17 side, prompting trainer Ivan Gudelj to promote him to the under-18 squad. Since then, he has made one appearance, scoring one goal. He is currently the youngest member of the under-18 team.
He is on loan at Cesena. He scored 2 goals in an 11-0 friendly win last week
