IMO he is at the same level as Longo, needs to play more for a weaker team.

not a fan, but dont blame him for that shit happens

I'm a fan of Livaja but shit does happen.

That sitter can happen and he will grow from it. :work:

some very very good players have skied efforts before.

Y'all is trippin' :work:

I'm not buying any of this. If you fail like this even once, it's over. No ifs, whatsoever. You simply do not miss one like that & I don't care what the situation or the excuses were.

If I would have missed one like this, I would have kissed my boots goodbye, hang'em on the wall & went working at Walmart or even went to the mountains, living in some cave for the rest of my life outta shame. You simply don't miss a ball like this. & don't come up with the Eto'o comparison. Eto'o had already a huge career behind him before missing a sitter. But this guy is right at the beginning & if you fail so hard right at the beginning, maybe you're not meant to be a pro football player, playing with the big boys after all. It's that simple.

This guy is being paid a shitload of money for his young ass age. He doesn't deserve shit, if he can't tap the ball in from 2 yards away.

Sorry to say, but this is one of the single most retarded comments you've ever posted.

I guarantee if you go back in the history of ANY great striker, they've ALL missed important sitters in their career. Thats what happens when you score goals - sometimes you miss them too.

Livaja is at the wrong place at the moment. He's in too big boots because he's supposed to be some kind of impact player coming from the bench when we're playing with our three strikers. Like many says, he's not a first striker so it's not natural for him to score goals. He might become one but he needs to learn that. He's not going to learn that in this kind of environment, in this kind of pressure, in a business where confidence is EVERYTHING.

I feel sorry for him. I thought he did well before that with every chance he got.

It seems like in that moment, before receiving the ball he believed that he had scored the winning goal before even touching the ball, which is basically why he missed it. He went celebrating before he scored. A thing you'd expect from a kid his age.

Exactly!!! If you go back in history, any GREAT striker has had a terrible miss, WHICH OF COURSE WOULDN'T MATTER AT ALL, CONSIDERING THE GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENTS THEY ALREADY HAD IN THEIR POCKETS.

But a thing like that from our little Livaja, who is seeking a starting position in our lineup & proving himself, is a career killer.

Therefore all the Eto'o & Vieri, etc. comparisons are plain stupid.

so, say, when eto'o was 19 and missed an open net, that was a career killer?

shit, he would have been so good if it wasnt for that miss!

any good striker also misses some. you're being overly dramatic.....

sorry, but you deserve nothing more than a double facepalm. it is one of the most retarded comments i've ever seen. Everyone, Ronaldo, CR, Crespo, Vieri, Raul, Henry, all of them have TERRIBLE misses when they were kids. And apparently none of them have had failed careers ;)

---------- Post added at 12:29 ---------- Previous post was at 12:21 ----------

also, just for my own education
what exactly did eto'o achieve at 19? from what I can see, theres the cameroon olympic gold medal, and african cup of nations, and african young player of the year. he didnt win anything at club level until 2003 (Copa Del Rey with Mallorca), and then after that you have to go to 2004-05 for La Liga.

Thierry Henry had a Ligue 1 with Monaco in 96-97, but that was 10 goals in 48 games (13 assists), so nothing really to write home about.

Crespo had Argentinian division titles under his belt (two) but that was it, contributing 22 goals in 50 matches for River...

At 19, Vieri was roughly winning his Coppa Italia with Torino, and wouldnt taste any success for another 4 seasons..

Ronaldo only had an FA cup, and that was his first season at United - he certainly didnt carry the team (6 in 40)...

Here's another young professional who has failed his career already and definitely never should even think about being a footballer

I mean how can you miss something like that?? Hang up your boots!

can we stop this Livaja bashing or defending? this is getting ridiculous.
Yes he miss a sitter which he shouldnt have. There is no way to justify that but it is not going to destroy his career.
The most important is how Livaja takes the lesson and learn to do it right the next time. If he react the right way, he will grow from that.

:serious: Damn, you must have pretty high expectations yourself, which kinda contradicts you being cool with Livaja's miss. Please share what you did accomplish at 19, if the Olympic gold medal, the African Cup & THE AFRICAN YOUNG PLAYER OF THE YEAR, sounds like nothing to you.

22 goals in 50 matches? Meh, you're right. I'm sure anybody could do that even in sleep. & it pretty much goes on with the rest of your comparisons about other players you mentioned.

-----

Your team is down 0-1, 15 minutes of the game left. For some reason the team manages to equalize outta nowhere. There are roughly 5 minutes to play. You've been seeking the entire season to close the gap between you & the pain in the ass league leaders. At this time, any 3 points against anybody -specially at home- would mean so much to the team. You are a young stud sitting on the bench. The coach sends you in. Then the situation comes up: late in the game, you happen to be 2 yards away from the goal, in the right place & at the right time. It's one of those moments which would either skyrocket your career & boost everything about your game to the clouds or it could send you way deep in a hole, sucking out your own confidence & everybody elses confidence in you. It's a very thin line indeed between those 2 different worlds... & lets face it... he came in short & failed. Tough reality, but maybe it isn't meant for everybody.

I think he needs to come out & score bicycle kicks & a couple hat-tricks, in order to make people forget "Oh yeah, he was the kid who missed the open goal from 2 yards out against Genoa at home."

What an excellent footage to backup your argument. You can't be serious.

In the scope of global football, that is nothing. People have won the World Cup at 18, Balon D'Ors at 20, 21... So, no, African young player of the year is not that big a deal (especially not in 2000, I cant even think of much competition). On that African most promising talent of the year award, we also see Pedro Mantorras, Mido, Obafemi Martins, Taye Taiwo, Clifford Mulenga, Kalou, and Adiyiah... Eto'o only scored one goal at the Olympics, behind Lauren (of Arsenal) who scored 3, and Patrick M'Bomba who scored 4. Not suddenly so impressive now!

The African Cup that year, he scored 4 goals, same as Patrick M'Boma, but was pipped by KHALILOU FADIGA to the striker of the tournament.

In Argentina? I place that as worse than the Dutch league. We all know what Alfonso Alves did there.

Just read my milito argument again why this is retarded. Livaja threatened once in his 15 minutes, Milito never threatened ever. Your view is basically entirely comprised from sports films, where you have some kid come off the bench and score the world cup winner, bla bla, to get to a stellar career. Sadly, thats not how it works in real life. Yes, his confidence will take a bit of a hit, but no professional footballer has NEVER made a big mistake. That is 100% guaranteed

What an excellent footage to backup your argument. You can't be serious.

Indeed how ridiculous your opinion is to me.

Trust me, I am not assuming we're friends. :)

Bashing Livaja for losing the Genoa game is possibly the single most retarded thing I've ever heard (other than the Cassano > Rooney thing, and repeatedly showing different methods of how to sign Falcao through a variety of selling players, wage savings, and illegal drug transactions)
