This thread is about one particular player whom you think we can afford, can get in January and one who can be a matchwinner - specially in Europe.

Despite all the money we spent in summer, 3 of the 4 are fringe players - (counting Jiminez) and Sulley Muntari, even though a fine, hard working CM, who has scored 2 important goals in 2 weeks is not someone who would drastically improve our chances of some success in Europe this season.

Ibra, as we all know, is not a big-match player - yet. Time and Again he has flatterred to deceive. But, he will remain an important cog in the Inter bandwagon as we need his magic to seal matches against the mid-table and lower teams.

Adriano - the best of the rest, as most of would agree (i mean when he is playing) is still no where near the player he used to be - and one can safely say he would never be Inter's saviour on a cont basis - specially in Europe.

Cruz - only good as a supersub. You may give me all the stats about his goal scoring to mins played ratio - but honestly, how many inspiring performances do u recall from him when he has played from the very beginning. He is Inter's Ole Gunnar Solksjaer. Period.

Balotelli - good talent, but he and Mourinho does not seem to have clicked.

Crespo/Obinna/Figo - I think we can safely say that they can not be categorised as "matchwinners"

So that brings us to the question - who can be our matchwinner? One guy - whom we need, whom we can afford, one who is available, and one - who can make the difference on his day.

No point is saying we need Messi or Villa or Torres or Aguero or Gerard or Lampard - because they are neither realistic and more importantly, not available for Europe.

And before you say that we can not afford to sign any one, please bear in mind Moratti paid a whole lump of compensation to Mancini and his staff (rumored to be around 60m) just to add Big Ears to the trophy cabinet ...

I think we need a decent AM to fill the 4-3-1-2 attacking formation. The best option right now is Elano to me.

He will be affordable and he will definitely be an upgrade to Deki at the AM role. In addition, he is eligible to play in the CL and he is unsettled at Man City after Robinho's arrival.

Of course I would prefer Hamsik but I think he is not available at least for January

If Elano performs he can be our consistent AM for even next season. If he seems only good enough for a bench role, we can get someone else for the summer. But for right now, I think we are lacking some communication between MF and strikers and an AM would definitely help.

You can't sign a player that match in your criteria in January, period.

Aguero, Hamsik, and Villa are available we just have to break the bank for them... Lampard is 30..... not worth it

I like the argie from Lazio Zarate or somethign like that could be a good striker for Jan, Diego Bounette and Falcao from River who can be gotten pretty cheap as River is in Crisis right now

I believe Villa & Aguero are transferable.
Messi and Gerrard not. :(

forward : I rate argentine strikers the highest! They are so determined!! INTER already has a tradition for argentine players and has a great argie group of players! We need 1 argentine forward to continue our legacy [Batistuta, Crespo, Cruz]! One of : Tevez / Agüero / Zarate !!! Other non-argentine options : Cassano / Benzema / van Persie / Drogba. OR just call back Acquafresca from LOAN spell.

I don't believe in Milito, but I could be wrong! Zanetti said he would be cool!

-
midfielder : David Silva / Hamsik / Diego / Fabregas / Aquilani / Elano.

PS: I don't think any of this will happen in January.

Villa would be able to play for us in the CL if we sign him.
Solskjaer did win the CL for Man Utd in 98/99:D, so if Cruz can repeat that i'd be happy.

I think the only players who could help us in the CL campaign are Hamsik and Milito. And Villa of course.

And since our forward line is likely to be boosted with the imminent arrivals of Millito and FQ - midfield is likely to be the area where the substantial investment in a "matchwinner" needs to be made.

I will just throw a few names guys who are known to have the ability to provide those moments of spark - Robben, Gerard, Fabregas, DDR(?), Silva, Diego, Sneijder, Hamsik, Diego, Affellay, Modric, Giovinco, D'Agostino, Gourcuff.

Or someone from the South American league like the highly rated Hernanes?

Some are seemingly unsignable, some are too expensive and some are publicly pursuded by other clubs. But then, as we all know in football money can buy a lot of things - may be not the Maldinis and Tottis of this world, but definitely 'Galacticos'

Personally what i am surprised is - there is still no rumors linking us to players we need most. I only hope it is a well-guarded secret, and that Moratti and Branca are working behind the scenes to ensure we land up with that target.

But one thing is for sure - Mourinho has explicitly asked for a playmaker of calibre - and every blind guy can see that a genuine playmaker can raise this Inter team to a whole new level - from where we can compete against the best in Europe.

i consider ibra a matchwinner, the best matchwinner in the whole world, if PES has a matchchwinner as an ability he would definitely take 100/100 of it

but he needs support ... and better personality

CR7 has Rooney, Carrick, Giggs, Scholes as support.
Gerrard has Torres, Alonso.
Messi has Eto'o, Henry, Xavi, Iniesta as support.
Ibra has simply Balotelli.

Ibra is a matchwinner. Maybe the only Matchwinner in the world that has to do almost everything by himself!
