Here are some details

Calcio e Finanza report that the Nerazzurri will receive a solidarity payment of €435,000 as part of the total fee for the Croatian international.

City will pay Chelsea a fee of around €29 million for the Croat. That could rise to around €34 million including add-ons.

As part of the deal, some of the fee that City pay Chelsea will go to Kovacic’s former clubs for the role that they played in his development.

The first of the clubs to receive a solidarity payment from Kovacic’s move to City are LASK. The Croatian international came through the Austrian team’s youth academy.

The Austrians will receive a solidarity payment of €145,000. Next are Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb.

Kovacic joined Dinamo in 2010 from Lask. The Croatian side will receive the largest solidarity payment out of all the clubs from the deal. They are entitled to a payment of €580,000 for their role in Kovacic’s development.

Inter signed Kovacic from Dinamo in January of 2013. The Nerazzurri will get a €435,000 payment for the two and half seasons that he spent at the San Siro.

In the summer of 2015, Inter sold Kovacic to Real Madrid for a fee of €29 million. Los Blancos will also get a portion of the Croat’s transfer fee.
However, since solidarity payments only cover the period before a player turns 23, the Spanish giants won’t get a payment commensurate to Kovacic’s entire time at the Santiago Bernabeu. Rather, Real will receive a payment of €290,000.

to be fair, how many minutes did he play in those 4* finals?


Across his career, he's played 30051 minutes in 491 games, thats an average of 60 minutes a game - Lukaku, for example, is 74 minutes average a game, Brozovic is an average of 78 minutes a game, De Vrij is 83 min per game (I just picked a few people off the top of my head as examples, not cherry picked)

Dont get me wrong, great on him for winning those CL medals, and he's obviously done well since leaving Inter, but he's never *quite* been the outright starter that he could have been imho


his first CL medal, 15/16, he played 34 mins in the latter stages of the CL, with 0 min in the final
16/17 - he played a total of 6 minutes in the latter stages of the CL, 0 in the final
17/18 was a bit more regular - 174 minutes in the latter stages, 0 in the final, and started two games in the run up
20/21 - 264 minutes, 10 in the final [albeit this season it looks like he was the regular starter but then missed 3 games to injury]


great for him though, 4 medals and a total of 10 minutes in the final. ben foster would be proud. Arnautovic would have that shit stitched on the back of all his boots.

I think he could have developed even more, it felt to me like his potenial was huge. That's why I am once more excited about him, because Pep can get him there imo

Kova is really good at receiving the ball in tight zones and turn around while being under pressure. That's a special attribute to have as a midfielder and Pep appreciates that. Just because he's gonna play under Pep, I don't think he's gonna make any significiant development.

Pep has managed to play with some players whom weren't that special in overall but they had some attributes that suited his style of play.
