Good eye Dev. I noticed this as well. Only Cassano and Palacio and to a lesser degree Guaro really moved around the pitch when Kova had the ball. Gargano and Cuchu as solid as they were just don't do these things as the former is just not an attacking player whatsoever and the latter doesn't have much energy in those legs anymore. He's also used to the Inter way of being carried by one player. Once we hopefully surround Kova with more talent in the midfield, I think he'll be even better.

Big reason for Coutinho's stall (apart from injuries) was the 352, which was conveniently dropped the moment he was sold.

Yes, but when Guarin played as an AM the three men defense formation, Coutinho wasn't even considered for that position. He probably did get considered, but Strama probably preferred a physical type AM, and plus, Guarin's form at that time was unquestionable.

So, getting Kovacic to improve our midfield play wasn't all that bad, especially when Coutinho wasn't much use to us, and we REALLY REALLY needed deep lying playmakers in our midfield.

he plays good in the deep. he and a destroyer combined in a 1324 would be ideal. i think he is more effective as dlp or boxtobox then cam. there is less pressure and he has good vision and pass so yea, he is just what we needed.

I missed the game, but from what I heard Kova was superb and showed that he was not an AM. Is that true?

He simply looked natural there at DM. Kept things ticking and came out with the ball superbly from our own half to theirs. If no one was available to pass, he alone ventured with the ball forward wisely. Fantastic performance. His defensive workrate including those diving tackles were great + that backheel was amazing. He simply needs to play every game till the end of the season.

That means after playing 3 full seasons with us he'll be 21!! Xavi reached his peak at like 30-31!

Can you imagine the potential for growth of this guy? Considering midfield is all about experience, and he looks like he's at the peak of his career already.
