I think this can be a good but also a very bad thing. The most compelling reason for getting rid of mazzarri is that he was hindering kovacic's development by not letting him be himself (aside from our shitty playing style).

Now mancio is apparently doing something similar, especially if he plays him as a number 10 and "tells" him "how to be himself" he's building the side around his tactics instead of our star player. isn't 4-3-1-2 is an archaic formation b/c the number 10 is disappearing, yet Mancini wants to make a natural CM into a fuckin treq? and wasn't mancini more of a forward than a midfielder?

he really can't. he touches the ball like twice a game with croatia as well. the only way he can pull it off is we're playing on the counter, because he has more space ahead of him.

if mancini plays him there, 99% of the time he's going to be dropping back to pick up the ball.

Kovacic can play as a central midfielder in 4-3-1-2. Kuz, Palacio, Guarin etc shouldn't be accommodated as much as kova, for example.

And why Guarin? Why not Hernanes who had one of his best seasons at Lazio there? And why make Kovacic aspire towards a position that is disappearing in football? although i see how mancio's tips could also help him a lot.

Whether or not he CAN do something is irrelevant. Kovacic could also play the Inler-role last season - doesn't mean it was what he should have been doing.

I kind of agree, and I think that's the problem with playing Hernanes and Kovacic. Although Hernanes is good starting in ACM and working in that tight space, and Kovacic is great coming from LCM or wherever and bursting forward, I feel like they both end up occupying similar spaces, and neither are particularly great tracking back. Knowing Mancini's track record of packing the midfield with defensive-minded players, I get the sense that he will often bench one of the 2, probably Hernanes, for the big games at least. This is a shame as I rate them as our best 2 midfield players, but we've got to get the team working cohesively somehow.
I might be wrong about this, and perhaps they'll both play together a lot - if Mancini can get them working in tandem then that would definitely be the ideal situation, and would love to see an Inter team in which this is the case. But in the derby, with Hernanes an injury concern, I think he may play Kova in the 'free role' with, like you say, M'Vila, Guarin and Kuz/Obi behind.

I look at somebody like thiago, who isn't a world beater yet, yet he is probably at least 5x better than Kova. And that's 5x Kova in AM position. Probably 10x in CM and DM position.
