Nah... what we need to do is change the whole conception of football to somehow fit him in all of this, you know those runs he is good at when he takes the ball somewhere around his half and then runs with it until he just hits someone, we make it so that every successful run is counted as one goal or a penalty or some shit like that. I m sure with those rules he can finally, for the first time in his career play three games in a row. :D

At the same time he has another counterpart on a pitch that is Ngolo Kante who is not killing it either. The reason no one complains is because everyone realise he is pretty much played out of position, which is kind of the case with Kovacic as well who has different tasks than he nominally should. Yet, everyone focuses on criticism of Kovacic whereas with Kante everyone just puts it on Sarri.

So yeah, I do think the criticism is a bit harsh.

BTW. I saw that he is supposed to be included in the Hazard transaction. Was just wondering, if Chelsea gets the ban in the end, will they be able to extend the loan (i.e. does it also fall under registering a player)?

If not, then I would guess this would be a pretty good spot for us...

I think the reason is that Kante has excelled at certain positions previously at Chelsea and at Leicester. On the other hand, there isn't really a position where Kovacic excels.

The main reason chelsea fans and pundits are annoyed with him is because he doesnt score or assist. Two things everyone knew before he went there.

Kovacic is talented but I think the lack of end product has made him stagnant. He can provide a killer pass every now and then but he needs to 'mature' his game. If he doesn't give up because he has "wasted" his talent, I see him being an important player for a good enough team in his mid 30s, playing some sort of regista or deep playmaking role. He needs more confidence imo.

Cannot and should not compare to Coutinho, completely different players but overall I will agree that Coutinho is a player that makes more noise.

A little too harsh on De Gea tho. De Gea had an okay season, was MOTM a few times. Many teams would still rather have De Gea than their current GK.

He should be praying every night for a transfer to liverpool, klopp managing him is about the only way he could revive his career on any kind of high level.

Clubs have been waiting for him to "mature" his game since he left Inter.

Why can't we just call him for what he really is? Namely, a shit low impact player that occasionally makes a nice pass.

What a shit list. Can't expect better from The Sun though. De Gea just returns to above average level instead of his monster level in recent years and there are many worst GK out there. Kovacic inclusion is also very harsh as he comes in free as loan and he is never expected to lit EPL.

It was true. Coutinho was very inconsistent as he would display 1 or 2 moments of slick movement and then disappear, just like he does now. Meanwhile, 18 years old Kovacic carried the entire team consisted of Gargano, Jonathan etc at the very first moment he stepped on the field under Stramaccioni tenure.

It boggles my mind that so many people still don't understand the role of a CM is to link attack and defence, not score goals or give assists. Those are bonuses. It's like measuring the performance of a defender by how many goals he scores.

Kovacic played 1700+ minutes in EPL this season, and his team finished 3rd & made EL finals.

Him playing that many minutes doesn't really state anything. Candreva had a lot of minutes last season and Inter qualified for the CL.

Kovacic hasn't really been doing a good job of linking attacks and defence in the games I've watched him play.

He made a bad decision for his career to go to Real Madrid as he has not improved much from.his time at Inter. He doesn't even start for Croatia, and hasn't been impressive in EPL either.

I would take him back. Obviously it should be a low cost buying, like 20 mil or loan with right of redemption.

I still believe in him, the qualities are there.

1700 minutes isnt that many - oin fact he hasnt been a consistent starter since the start of the season basically.

and, yeah, you're right, goals and assists for a midfielder isnt the end of the world. At the same time, obviously a lack of goals and assists also doesnt make a midfielder a success inherently.

I wonder if he should be called talented. Just because he can dribble a bit, doesn't mean he is talented. He is probably skilled, which is very different. There are tons of skillful players out there, and many more skillful than him on the beaches of Brazil.

Talent is something else. Talent requires you to be able to at least some of the below, and there may be more things to it.
- Reading the game well
- Knowing when and whom to pass to
- Finishing ability
- Knowing whom to mark or intercept
- and many other things

Kovacic has never shown any other thing apart from some skill on the ball, which doesn't do much good.

Do you know the difference between talent and skill? I mean, the literally difference!
