we knew he was kinda bad, or overrated. Anyway, made some money. Good. Then later on he kept on flopping everywhere else as well. Foreseeable. So why in the name of baby jesus would we take him back? That would make no sense.

We sold him, knowing his level. If he was any good we would have build around him like we did with icardi, or skriniar nowadays. He wasnt, didnt even know his position. He is a shitty iniesta at best imo. Totally against buying him again. A loan would be ok for squad depth but we all know that will never happen. If he comes he will be lauded like a big acquisition

Hes flopped in the left side CMF role as he has zero end product. However he's been adequate as back up to Jorginho and Kante. I think all in all Chelsea fans would be happy to keep him. Versatile, young, can play across the midfield, is on normal wages.

What "end product"? He's a CM... Has anyone criticized his actual passing and linking up play, or is it just "hur durr wherZ tHe gOaLs"?

He's not a goalscoaring midfielder. The one thing I miss most about having Kovacic is that he actually played through balls and grounded long passes that went where they should.

I don't think we've scored a goal through the middle since 2015

Midfielders should contribute something in terms of goals/assists especially as Kovacic is not a player that dictates the pace of the game - I'd agree with you if we're talking about Pirlo. Kovacic is a good at running with the ball and a decent passer but he doesn't really excel at anything.

What i mean is he doesn't even attempt, vertical passes or shots, just sideway pass after sideway pass. He doesn't even go on those dribbling runs through the middle. Zero confidence. His agent fucked him over taking him to clubs where he couldn't in his preferred role and nurture his talent. Still rate him highly and would welcome him back. He's still very young.

He is similar to Jorginho, i am fine with him playmaking in the middle of the park, someone of his quality is always a plus to any side let alone Inters with the midfielders playing now who cant do simple things like passing sideways or control the ball.

He is much better than Brozovic with the ball but so much weaker defensively. Wouldn't want them to coexist in a two man midfield at Inter, would be bad news vs good sides.

They would do well in a 3 man midfield in a 4-3-3. Skriniar would do well there in that trio but getting a solid DM would be the better option prob. Him and Kovacic wouldnt be that bad though, you can have the LB or Asamoah covering as a 3rd player and they would do well on the ball to keep possession so they wouldnt have to work that much defensively overall.

Then no one would be a scoring threat from the middle. And we'd still struggle to make attacks, we'd have to rely on the individual ability of the wingers (4-3-3) or the striker to make goals. So square one.

Just because we don't have a threat from midfield now (it's Nainggolan at the moment but he's too isolated and disjointed with the setup) it doesn't mean we have to make this a trend. We need an overhaul.

I agree, but if Kovacic is signed like i said a 4-3-3 with the trio i mentioned is a good option, if a 4-4-2 / 4-2-3-1 or a 3-5-2 is implemented then we can have a different conversation.

Regardless you have 3 midfielders In Mario, Gags and Veccino who are as good as useless frying pans and should be sold. Then u have Nainggolan who gets injured every 5 mins and is not nowhere near his best, even last year he was on the decline. Adding Kovacic is not a bad idea in the midst of all these issues.

Kova should be signed as 4th or 5th option for the midfield, no way around it.

If you replace all of these and Kovacic is just one of the replacements, sure. But if you just add Kovacic you don't do much.

Have you seen our midfield? Seriously, have you? This is the worst midfield we've had in 3-4 decades. These guys can't get the ball past the halfway line, but yeah Kova would be a 4th or 5th option. He was only a regular for a 3rd placed EPL team and EL finalist. Loftus-Cheek that "took his place" had like half his minutes.

They can stay on the bench if they want.
