I say he is better than the Dzeko we had, especially in the conversion angle.

The biggest problem with Džeko was his age, because obviously he had less minutes in his legs than this current Taremi has. As far conversion goes, we can't know that at this time, it's too soon, but Džeko was pretty good at scoring goals. If Taremi is any close to that, we have a monster on the bench.

So what’s the current consensus on this guy?

The gap between him and Arna is bigger than with LM/Thuram.

He’s done the job, would like to have more goals from him but it’s ok.

He doesn’t spark like Sanchez but with Sanchez you don’t know what you will get from him when he’s on field, Taremi is more reliable.

Bit of a strange one so far. We wrote off Arnautovic for the standard reasons you would write off any struggling striker - he didn't score enough goals and he missed too many easy chances, but applying this basic logic to Taremi so far is trickier. He has not scored enough goals for sure - zero non-penalty goals in 559 minutes of play - but you cannot say he has missed sitters because he hardly seems to have had any chances, or even shots at goal which is worrying in itself.

His workrate and intelligence with the ball are undoubted positives, but we do need to see more basic striker stuff from him.

His role seems to be about pressing and creating plays & space for his strike partner rather than going for goal himself. A selfless player who works hard for the team and contributes. I'd take him over Arnautovic any day.

I don't think there's anyone suggesting he is not the obvious next choice after Lautaro and Thuram, nor that there are not good things about his game. We have an attack which is broadly inefficient anyway so expecting your strikers to be able to do more than work selflessly for the team is perfectly reasonable. Hopefully this can come into his game soon.

Yeh totally. i Wonder what his strike to conversion rate is cos the eye-test for me says he isnt getting that many options and when he does looks to play someone else in, which is why he isnt getting goals. Maybe needs to be more selfish.

I've had a look around for his stats this season so far and found a site that suggests in Serie A he has played 207 mins and generated a cumulative XG of 1.05 (his penalty goal was in Europe of course).

A comparison with some other Inter players from the same site:

Taremi: 1.05 (207 mins)
Thuram: 6.17xg (910 mins)
Lautaro: 5.35 (827)
Arnautovic: 1.04 (32 mins)
Correa: 0.10 (32 mins)
Frattesi: 1.55 (540 mins)

So these figures sort of confirm the impressions most of us have of him in as much as he's not been effective at all at generating opportunities.

Just for comparison so we know what really efficient strikers can do, Harry Kane has generated 8.37 XG in 758 minutes, scoring 11 times.

I wouldn’t mind experimenting with a 3-4-1-2 with him behind two strikers and drop Barella deeper to help defend. He sort of reminds me of Griezemann in that he works hard and I think has a natural ability to find the guy who does finish. I should note this likely won’t ever happen unless we’re trailing or going for a win.

I don't think he has had a single genuine scoring chance yet. I can hardly remember any shots on target. He works hard and has good positioning, but he feels like a midfielder in a forward's body.

After his first games at Inter i had posted this:

From what i have seen from Taremi so far he gives me the impression he is more of a hard working SS than a prolific CF in our system. He has high work rate, he will fight for every ball, he will provide assists to the main forward. He will occasionaly score but he won't be the main guy to score goals in attack.

I haven't changed my mind ever since.

He’s been good, but still too timid. He needs to impose himself more and become the tiniest bit more selfish.

It hasn’t helped that he’s yet to get a good run of consecutive minutes. I think we should give him more of chance to compete with Thuram for a starting spot. It will only benefit us in the end.

I thought this guy is prolific striker when he came to us.

He had a few, including the one he shot straight at the GK from a close range. Can't remember the game. It was a home match and the chance was in the last minutes of the game.
