If the lasts few seasons of Serie A have proved anything the whole "a spent EPL player should be fine in a slower league like Serie A" notion is false. Evra doesn't count because he wasn't done IMO.

Looking at Miranda and Melo, I don't think it's an EPL thing with Mancini. It's more the case with Thohir than Mancini imo.

Mancini so far has shown his approach to the squad building relies significantly on players with big experience, "leaders", players who could be captains like Melo, Miranda, Vidic, Yaya Toure, Pirlo all fit that profile of an experienced leader with international rep and Ivanovic is similar, as a player with CL experience, as Chelsea's vice-captain etc.

I think both him and Vidic are physically and mentally drained athletes though. I would rather see Inter rely more on inventive coaching approach and creating distinctive style than just throwing experience at the problems waiting for us next season, like hopefully mid-week CL games.

Is Ivanovic done though? Or is he just having fitness problems?

Used to think the guy was a bit of a model athlete.

Dunno if it's simply that a lot of teams in EPL are becoming a lot more competetive than before.

Ivanovic has really been very bad, but I think it's more noticeable due to his position. he easily gets beat for pace by the fast wingers in EPL, and is unable to run up and down.

He plays better as a CB for Serbia.

At the same time, I'm not sure I would want him.

The important thing, when trying to assemble a squad on a budget, is to not make a team purely out of 'castaways'! We have been there, done that!

i do not think a creative player is needed

Banega would work in this Inter, but Mancini is not searching for a creative player like Hamšik and the like

The guy has a fitness problem but no one knows if he can get back up at his age, especially when he had the issue for over a year and Mou is still starting him in almost every game.

I like Banega but fact we could have gotten him last summer for 2.5 million USD..... to now buy him for 10 million euro would piss me off.

Also don't you think we have enough MFs?

Starting Material
-Kondo
-Bro
-Medel
-Melo
-Ljajic
-Persic
-Biabiany

Promising
-Goku
-Cristeg (loaned)

Sell
-Guarin

I'm counting 6 of them. I'd loan Goku and sell Guarin. Not in Europe we don't need that many players. IF we can get a great player then fine but I think we are good in MF.

I want a LB/RB as that is our weak link. As well as a 3rd striker. I really want to get rid of Palacio. Dude makes too much money and doesn't deliver. I'd be cool with cashing in on Icardi as well. I have become a believer of the church of Jovetic. If we sell him then we need 2 strikers

Dream - Vidic, Palacio, Carrizo, Montoya, Naga, Guarin all leaving in January. :) Even if we get no money for Palacio or Vidic it would be great but hope we send Palacio to Boca for 1st dibs on one of their prospects. I hate Carrizo because he got us knocked out of Europa league last season !!

Biabiany, Perisic, and Ljajic are not central midfielders. Gnoukouri isn't good enough to start and we don't own Crisetig anymore. Medel, Melo, and Kondogbia are all very defensive midfielders and while Brozovic looks like a solid player I don't think he's good enough to have all the creative burden in midfield for a top 3 team. Our midfield is tactically very poor because it's unbalanced and offers next to nothing going forward, which is a reason none of our goals/attacks have build up play and we're so reliant on our strikers to pull something out of nowhere.

I don't understand how you're so optimistic about this season. Our midfield is good enough to win the league ahead of Napoli and Juve? Take Murillo out and we'd still be "winning the league"? WTF???

Any Serie A team would suffer without the likes of Miranda and Murillo, yes we have two fantastic starting defenders of course we'll feel their absence if they're injured. All I can say about our depth is that Ranocchia would be able to start against Roma and also we won and played well (for this point the latter is more important) while leaving Perisic, Icardi, Kondogbia, Guarin, JJ and Rano on the bench. I'm sorry, but we've got very good strength in depth and our football is starting to look good.

About our midfield yes, they're not the best at playing the ball, but they can give us the ability to push up and win the ball back quickly and get our opponents on the backfoot. I don't get how our midfield is not balanced, it balances the whole team that is why we're so defensively solid is because we've got a solid shape.

our football is not starting to look good, sorry but thats not true. we played a good second half against napoli but it was a combination of the team pushing harder 1 man down and napoli switching off in all honesty. the way we score goals and defend cannot keep us consistent because we defend in numbers and that makes us overly reliant on our strikers to create and score goals. ljajic for one has never been consistent in his career. (at the same time i've been saying this for the past two months and we've still been able to do it, but i really dont see how it can continue until may)

our midfield is really bad with the ball. against frosinone i recall we looked terrible whenever the ball wasnt in the final third. our midfield isnt balanced because it offers nearly nothing going forward (no creativity) which is why none of our attacks have any build up play.

i can only see us finishing within the top 3 if one of roma or napoli fuck it up, unpopular opinion.
