We didn't lose Vidal because we wanted Modric. Modric also wanted to come, let's not ignore this. It was Perez who blocked the transfer, because obviously it was up to him to accept or reject. .

I protect myself for reasons just like this. Honestly, I couldn't remember whether that was just speculation or proven so I didn't want to write it like it was gospel. It wouldn't have surprised me if it was and it wouldn't have surprised me if it wasn't. There's a reason it's called "silly season" after all.

Exactly! And there were discussion for month here why we didn't make that transfer!
The only possibility was to sell Icardi before 30 June and to buy again Cancelo. I remembered I read somewhere that was one of the reason why Sabatini left. he wanted to sell Icardi and redeem Cancelo and Rafinha.
When we look back it would have been a good idea: Icardi had maximum value and with over 100m we could afoord Cancelo, Rafinha and also someone in the range of 30m. But those muppets didn#t want to let Sabatini run the show!

And the only team that was rumoured to sign Icardi was Juventus, where the 110m clause didn't apply, and they only considered him as a backup plan to Cristiano Ronaldo. He didn't consider them back. Just see the Icardi thread from back then and you'll see the backlash about his wife's photos of holidays and zebras.... Oh, and the transfer would have been Icardi for $$$ + Higuain. Of course it requires more than just a coach to get this shit going, but I'm positive Marotta can build structures and most of all DISCIPLINE to this club and to the team. When the structures come from above, it's easier for the coach to succeed. With Spalletti it's already a lost cause, he lost the locker room and it can't be taken back anymore by the same guy. Conte has a clean slate and Marotta bringing order to the house will give Conte more tools to work with.

Of course it's the coaches, but it's the coaches in package with ausilio, gardini and majority of the scouts. This is not just set of circumstances that have come against them, so we need to just ride it out, it's the systematic incompetence for almost ten years now, and I don't care if their only job was licking stamps in the office, they need to go. Sturaro was sold exactly like Caprari. Juventus made plusvalenza and in summer they will pay a big amount for Romero (I can guess: he will be overpriced with the same amount between 20m and the real value of Sturaro).
