Solid game from Skriniar, second half he had more confidence on the ball and tried to play every ball forward or even go forward himself. Of course it could always be better, one time he passed the ball to De Vrij while Barella was free in the middle but these passes forward will be giving a lot more if he's confident and comfortable. Really hopes he is staying and with a phenomenal Hakimi on the right Skriniar doesn't need to go forward as much as he would have go when we played Candreva or D'Ambrosio there.

And he is making those fouls because he wants to press forward and put pressure. A lot of times these are 50/50 duels, whoever gets first at the ball while win the free kick. Ramos, Varane, Van Dijk and Koulibaly do this all the time to stop the counter attack. If he lets the attacker turn it's a 2 vs 1 for the opponent and they go full speed head on de Vrij, I don't think anyone wants de Vrij 2 vs 1.

Satisfied with the performance and convinced he will adapt to this roll, will he be the best defender on that RCB? No I don't think so but it's just a matter of perform until Conte is gone and we will play with 4 defenders again.

Fouling is kind of irritating to watch, gotta admit that. But if the attacker is slick the option is he goes past you or tricks you. What happened against Fiorentina with Ribery and D'Ambrosio in Chiesa goal. And that was like almost in the center of the pitch. You foul if you are far from the goal and the attacker tricks you while they are counterattacking. That's not even debatable. Of course not to get sent you off the pitch but intelligently.

Regarding Castrovilli goal, that was even worse. There were D'Ambrosio and Bastoni both just looking what Ribery is going to do. I don't think Skriniar would have allowed such shit to happen. It would have been a freekick or ball taken from Ribery.

I also liked the balanced combination with Hakimi. Having Skriniar at the back gives Hakimi more freedom which is crucial to our attack. We can't face a solid opponent with Hakimi and fucking D'Ambrosio/Darmian without leaking tons of attacks on our right flank.

Too late for this deal, should be re-evaluated next year. Any hypothetical replacement will cost 10mil more than they should because of the need and time remaining.
