It seems like Conte's trying really hard to make Mancini proud. In January, he'll change his mind (again) and bench Darmian+Kolarov and cry for new CBs when his shitty defenders leak 2-3 goals every game. We've JUST conceded 5 goals in two games. If this isn't a warning alarm to Conte then I don't know what it is.

Fabrizio Romano when he was asked about Skriniar from a Spurs fan:

He'd accept Spurs, yes. But he’s happy also at Inter... it depends by the two club, Skriniar will not create any problem

Reliable Chelsea journalist Nizaar Kinsella:

Meanwhile, Antonio Rudiger has lost interest from Roma, who are expected to complete a move for Manchester United's Chris Smalling.

However, AC Milan and West Ham are now contenders for the German international, who is talking to various clubs alongside Chelsea as the club attempts to get the best possible deal for the defender.

Inter have also made contact for Rudiger, just in case Tottenham produce a bid worth accepting for their defender Milan Skriniar.

Rudiger is also seen as a backup option for Spurs in case they fail in their attempts to land Skriniar, having already had an approach rejected by Juventus for Merih Demiral.

The 27-year-old defender would welcome a stay in the Premier League and particularly London, but he also has an eye on his Euro 2020 place and sees European football as a key requirement.

The Hammers are working to convince him to come to east London, while Chelsea may block attempts from Jose Mourinho's side to sign their defender. Barcelona are also monitoring the situation but have him lower on their list.

Rudiger is not good enough to be a starter in Inter.

David Ornstein: THFC's pursuit of Milan Škriniar is all but over. Antonio Rüdiger is now their main target. Rüdiger's preference is to join Spurs despite interest from the likes of FC Barcelona and Inter Milan. Chelsea don't want to sell him to their London rivals.

Alasdair Gold:

The move for a new centre-back is less pressured than the one for a striker, as after 14 months of failing to replace Fernando Llorente and heaping pressure on Harry Kane to play almost every minute, Spurs needed to make that deal for a forward happen.

Mourinho's frustration behind the scenes was growing louder until the breakthrough was finally made for Vinicius.

It's a different scenario when it comes to a new central defender.

The belief within Tottenham is that while they now have at least two top players in every position, the left-sided centre-back role is the one missing piece of the puzzle since the departure of Jan Vertonghen.

Eric Dier can play on that side and has a big admirer in Mourinho, but his fellow senior centre-backs Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez are far less comfortable there.

The versatile Japhet Tanganga, who earned his first England U21 international call-up this week, can play there, although it's not as natural for him as he is on the right, while left-back Ben Davies can do a job there.

Those options are why Mourinho will not be crestfallen if a new defender cannot be secured by the end of Monday as he can operate in the months ahead with those available choices.

It's also why Tottenham will try to sign a new centre-back who can play on the left before the deadline but only if they can secure the right deal for the squad upgrade they require, rather than spending desperately.

Inter Milan's Milan Skriniar is the club's top choice, but the problem lies in a £13million difference in valuation.

The Serie A side want £45million for the 25-year-old Slovakian but Spurs want a deal closer to £32million with add-ons for the defender, who is very keen on the move.

There has been plenty of posturing from the Italian outfit with their sporting director and head coach Antonio Conte both saying that Skriniar is not for sale, but the latter crucially conceded that the club do need money to fund their own signings.

It's with that in mind that Spurs are expected to return with a new approach late in the window in the hope that Inter compromise in order to push on their own transfer dealings.

But who will replace Skriniar then? Because neither D'Ambrosio not Darmian are proven champions. In fact, the only defender we had that was a proven champion is the one we let go first in Godin.

Probably Darmian. Conte has played Kolarov on the left without getting too annoyed about his horrible performances. Maybe Conte believes he can turn Kolarov and Darmian to solid defenders.

I don't know, some information is missing to make sense to this situation.

You know what the sad thing is? :D Roma are are aiming for players who match their level and ambitions: Smalling and Rudiger. Nobody cares about defenders like them at Juve, Barca, Bayern etc (back ups maybe). These top clubs would instead kill to get someone like Skriniar. INTER ON THE OTHER HAND, are aiming for defenders who are even LOWER than Roma's standards! (Kolarov and Darmian)

Sorry but anyone who tries to justify this is just blindly defending Conte's choices here.

It’s very simple. Hire a corrupt SD like Marotta and the first thing he does is to bring his buddy Conte who is equally blind with regard to talent and then they work together to destroy the club. People here might laugh but I have a feeling that Milan or even Roma will probably return to winning trophies faster than Inter if the Zhangs don’t wake up and stop Marotra.

He won’t be here in January. Conte's stubbornness will bite him soon and Inter will start dropping points and he won’t be saved by Sensi or Sanches like last year.

I will just say the same pesimism was here against the decision to bring Lukaku last year. One dimmensional, too expensive, no technique and all that. After a phenomenal season like he and we had, I'd wish people would be smarter this time around. Wishful thinking.

So it's not just the manager that is to blame, we made a deal with Parma for darmian a year ago, I can't imagine conte wanting him and happy for him to stay at Parma for a year, then also happy to wait to get him at the end of the market.

Skriniar called up, surely means he's staying then with the market closing on Monday, right?
Spurs paying the price for being cunts with eriksen, hope we don't budge at all in price.

You missed the point, most of us were positive about Mario, Lazaro... while we were so against signing Lukaku. So maybe dont judge a player before they play for us.

Except Darmian, fuck Darmian.

There were rumours in England Tottenham would make a late move for Skriniar during weekend but there's nothing about it so far. Levy was probably counting on Inter dropping the price but this hasn't happened so far. Fuck Spurs and fuck Levy who valued Ndombele at 80m but Skriniar at 30m.

Didnt say you did but I've seen a ton of people saying, 'darmian, kolarov etc, man fuck conte " and yes conte was with us a year ago, that's what I'm saying. If conte wanted him I doubt he'd have been happy to leave him at Parma for a year.

Darmian is probably on Marotta. He had tried to sign him at Juve for years. He even had him ahead of Cancelo in his list
