last season Luiz Felipe was injuried and he barely played. Inzaghi tried with Musacchio and Hoedt, but they were disaster, even Adam Marusić played as a center-back.
Generally it seems it was similar to Conte's Inter - as long as we were playing with our starters it was fine. Luiz Felipe - Acerbi - Radu was very solid, but with Hoedt, Marusić and Parolo it didn't work at all. The same was in Inter, with Kolarov or D'Ambrosio we conceded a lot of goals.
Though we gotta say Kolarov and D'Ambrosio didn't play much after we switched to lower defensive block and generally tighter defending as a team (the famous first Sassuolo match). Kolarov didn't play any match after Sassuolo in Serie A. D'Ambrosio played odd minutes here and there and only after we had secured the Scudetto he played 3x full 90 mins.

So there is no sample data enough to make any conclusions how these two would have played for us.

Kolarov played against Milan and Fiorentina in Coppa Italia and he was involved in 2 goals we conceded ;)

I like this move, it seems safe. He is versatile, apparently solid technique, offers some flexibility in terms of formation down the road…

And he already played with Barella right? That can speed things up in compensating teamwork we lost with Hakimi.
nandez came as barella sub the same summer...

Di Marzio - Negotiations between Inter and Cagliari for Nandez has stopped at the moment, Cagliari opened for a loan but asks for values much higher than those offered by Inter. Inter wants to respect the economic rules that the board has imposed.

Unless we offer a loan fee or we give guarantees to Cagliari we're going to redeem him at the end of his loan i can't see this happening. Taking players on loan who aren't needed at their clubs is one thing. But taking players on loan who are important for their clubs? Yeah. That's not gonna happen.

It will get done one way or another. It's not gonna be fast but Nandez will move for sure, Giulini had promised him that. Probably needs some creativity but will get done. But it's not gonna be fast. At the earliest next week, possibly even later.

Very excited for this signing he is a good player at an underperforming club we got a glimpse of his talent when he plays with better players at the copa and I think his versatility will make him a long term signing for us!

Is he being signed as a rwb? Quality signing either way, exciting and worth the wait.

I have a hunch Nandez might be signed as multipurpose player. He's gonna be the player to RWB position and to a mezzala role as replacement for Vidal whose contract might get terminated once he founds a club who wants to sign him (do a real contract offer).

We already have quite a lot of midfielders and there doesn't seem to be a market for Vecino or Gagliardini so we just keep these guys. And cannot afford to buy new midfielder obviously.

So I'm seeing Barella-Brozovic-Calhanoglu being starters. Then Nandez as Barella sub and Sensi as Calhanoglu sub. Then Gags and Vecino as some additional subs for different situations. Maybe Agoume stays as Brozo sub or he goes on loan to France and we just go like before, without a clear Brozo sub.

Surely not optimal as Nandez probably starts as RWB but at least it's better than last season when we didn't have Barella sub at all (well maybe it was more about Conte refusing to rest Barella ever).

I agree. I also wouldn't be surprised if we sign Nandez now and then sign another rwb close to the end of the transfer window in case one of our targets becomes available on loan with option to buy.

I see the same scenario. But I hope Vecino is also sold/release. Too much money for his shitty contribution. And Agoume loaned somewhere where he could play. Sensi, Gags and Nandez is more than decent second line.

Yeah I agree, it makes a lot more sense if Vidal and one of Vecino/Gags also go.

I feel like in an ideal world (which we certainly dont live in) we would sign Nandez, bring a RWB and LWB on loan, and then move Vecino and Perisic so we could afford to bring another player that can compete with Brozovic.

That’s a lot to get done in a window and realistically both wingbacks we want require cooperation from their clubs. What I take away from this is that it seems the club thinks our wingbacks are the most replaceable position in the 3-5-2. Which I guess makes sense because really the spine of the team is usually what makes the difference.

If this is true, I reckon its to soften the blow of the sponsors/kit hahaha. At least they trying to balance our emotions!
