As for the top players ever, the way I judge is this. It's also similar to how I rate football players.
1) Fundamentally sound?
2a) Leader on the court? As in, takes over and gets hot when the team needs him to?
2b) Can return from the bench and be 10/10 from the get go in big moments?
3) Has demonstrated that he is heads and shoulders above competition at NBA Playoffs and the international scene?
4) Has a signature move or a sporting impact of notice on both ends? Basically, is he iconic?
5a) Does his playing style translate to other eras?
5b) Would he look better in a different era?
5c) Does the era he played in exaggerate his level, as in, inflate his status and makes him more popular or more effective?
6) Can I build a team around him? Do I need another superstar in order to suceed? Again, question goes across eras.
7) Did he change the way the game is played?
8a) Did the NBA make rules to make it tougher for him?
8b) Did the NBA introduce rules to make it easier for him?
9) Did he get preferential treatment by the refs?
10) Is he worth remembering and telling peoole who didn't watch him to get a glimpse?

No Doncic? 😲
He's up there as one of the best, but favourite? Nah, can't put him before Carter, McGrady or AI. Maybe if he was less of a whiny bitch.

Oh I also forgot D.Rose

D.Rose, Grant Hill and Penny were my top 3 players whose injury ended their carreer. What could have been for those players, though Rose did win 1 MVP.

For me D.Rose is the one if only he stayed fit dude was an absolute beast.... Also if Vince would have given two fucks about dominating i think his name would be up there with the goats dude was surreal but did not show it often enough...

Vince spent most of his career in clubs that "didn't matter". Great 3pt shooter too

I'd put T-Mac there, too.
Him and Iverson were the real deal just before that rules change that allowed guards to become super dominant and got all the lanes cleared up. Kobe was also there of course but had to share the ball (if he wanted to) with Shaq.

I think Brandon Roy is another one who would have been elite if healthy.

The players that got me most excited - apart from the absolute legends, so mostly guys who are currently underrated - were Tmac, Grant Hill, Penny Hardaway, Monta Ellis (don't ask why, but I loved him for some reason and rooted for the GSW when him and Steph were the backcourt and had a soft spot), Mark Price, Mitch Richmond, Clyde Drexler, Kevin Johnson, Jason Kidd and Damian Lillard. And yes, Vince as well. Who didn't? We lived for those Saturday morning highlight reels.

There was obviously so much talent around and so many great players that were just marginally off of marking their name as all time greats (eg Steph Marbury, Steve Francis or Blake Griffin) due to various circumstances.

There's also those you'd think would become all time greats but barely left a mark in their days. I'm guilty of that with Tobias Harris, thought he'd become an elite forward when he got drafted, can't say with confidence he's been top 10 in his position though.
Also from former players I expected Darius Miles to become a top 10 SF of all time, didn't even sniff close to top 10 in a given season... Guy's life has taken a nose dive as well!

From the current crop of newbies, I can't wait to see what's next for Anthony Edwards. Really rooting for the guy, currently :D

As for Grant Hill, definitely top 10 of all time talent/potential. Such a shame. There was nothing like him and never has been ever since...

Agreed but i just seemed like he had another gear to go to but he never had that kobe/MJ mentality of give me the ball and move out of the way.. If he had that he would be in the goat convo....
Btw I m also saying this cause a lot of former teammates and opponents sated on podcast that if vince would have wanted to dominate he would be in that goat convo.

Anyway, people should hype up their favourite players of all time. Mine are Duncan, Curry, AI, Vince Carter, McGrady, Jordan, Jokić, Miller.
No need to hype up Maxey. He is doing all the work.
Jerry West passed away. R.I.P. Legend
Am I crazy or this somehow went under the radar this summer? This is a massive massive loss for NBA world. Absolute legend.

Incredible shooter and passer, with a smooth first step.

Reminds me of Mark Price.

R.I.P. He left way too early. People mostly remember him for his years in Atlanta but personally I will always remember him in that Sixers team along with Iverson that reached NBA finals. His stint at Rockets was also fun.
