Populous project chosen. Official in 48hrs.

Ready in 2027. 65k

Do not fu** this up, Sala.
Crazy that it will take six years to build a freaking stadium. Adding the years since a new stadium is discussed we are near to the 20 years mark. Damn I love Italian bureaucracy. 🤌

Sala specifically wanted No towers around the new stadium and looking at the picture he got his wish ( and plenty of Panama millions on his offshore)

I still want to see actual digging , not gonna believe before then. But this is a unique design, looks beautiful.

It going to be shared with Milan?

I mean I lived in NYC and Giants stadium is shared. I don’t see the big deal. I guess it’s different since Milan and Inter are equally good. And the Jets/Giants are more of an Esponyol vs Barca type of thing.

If it gets us the stadium faster and we share the cost I see it as a win win.

It is shared as it would make zero sense financially to not share a stadium. Too expensive for these clubs to build their owns and it would be politically completely impossible.

“Yes To Preserve Meazza” Committee File First Appeal Against Demolishing San Siro, Italian Media Report

The “Yes to Preserve Meazza” committee has filed their first official appeal against the demolition of the San Siro in Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, who report that the group has begun the process which they hope will lead to debates and referendums to stop the tearing down of the stadium.

Inter and AC Milan are moving forward with their plans to construct a new stadium in the city, with the clubs having officially announced the selection of the “Cathedral” design by US firm Populous for the new structure.

However, the tearing down of the San Siro remains a controversial aspect of the clubs’ plan, and the “Yes to Preserve Meazza” movement has arisen from those wishing to stop the demolition.

The committee recently announced their intention to file an appeal to a Milan court to hold up the demolition, and they have now formally begun the process.

It is unclear how this will affect the clubs’ timeline for construction if at all, with the plan being to open construction sites in 2023 and have the stadium complete and operational by 2027.

They didn't build it from scratch, they got it as a 'fuck you' gift from the council/government and Atletico just rebuilt some sections.

In the US I the NFL the NY Jets and Giants share a stadium. The la rams and the la chargers share a stadium. In the NBA the Lakers and Clippers share one too. I don't see the problem. In many cases it helps a team get a much better stadium than they normally would on their own.

There are almost no benefits of building separate stadiums right now. It's also something we've been successfully doing for nearly a century.

Super excited for this plan and the design. I see people on various platforms complaining about the 65k and the design... I love both.

The design is unique and also timeless. The capacity is fitting for where we are right now (and probably too much for Milan...). Yes, we would sell more tickets at big games than 65K, but demand is also a good thing.

There is nothing special about the inside of this stadium. The outside is what it is (an art installation with a ton of useless space).

Honest, maybe ignorant question to the Italians here, but why does this sound like a good idea? From a romantic point of view. the Meazza/San Siro is on of the most recognizable and most beautiful stadiums in the world. And excuse me if I'm wrong, but before Covid, Inter had the highest average attendance in Italy. What are the economics in play here?

In what sense? What part being a good idea? It sounds like you would rather renovate the Meazza. It’s vital that we own our next stadium. We don’t own the Meazza, Milano (the city) does. It’s not tenable to stay in a stadium we don’t own, regardless of its prestige.
