Uefa confirms U19 Champions League to begin in 2013
The organising body plans to have a 32-team "shadow" tournament in which clubs that qualify for the senior campaign will also send youth teams to square off

From 2013-14, a new dimension of competition will be added to the Champions League, Uefa has confirmed.

Each of the 32 clubs that qualify for the Champions League proper will be invited to send a team to compete at under-19 level.

The youth tournament will not exactly mirror the senior competition, however: the knock-out matches will be single-legged, while both the semi-finals and finals will take place on neutral territory.

The leaders of next gen must be pissed. It's only a matter of time before this takes over.

meh, fuck uefa

they're just inviting all the clubs who get into the CL.

I prefer next gen, where they are targetting the invitations for iat and so on.

Theres also, i guess, no reason you cant run them concurrently maybe?

Sure they can both go on at the same time but there's no way clubs will play both. The first year will probably be a fail for uefa as the major clubs will still have a contract with next gen. After the contracts expire I don't see how people choose next gen over Uefa. They are the bigger organisation and will find a way to turn profit im sure.

I don't like that the youth clubs will be choosen solely on how their senior team play. Teams with great youth systems will be left out if their senior team sucks. I could especially see this happening to the Dutch clubs. It will also put big clubs with poor youth systems to the slaughter. What will eventually happen is all the talent will shift towards the big clubs, and it will become harder for small clubs to make money off their youth system products. Everyone will want exposure in the youth champions league. And soon we will have 16 year olds demanding champions league football lol.
