NFL 2009 Draft

I don't know if anybody cares about the NFL Draft but the draft is today and the first day is done. As a 49ers fan I'm still in shock that we got the best WR in the draft by far at the 10th pick. We also traded for a 1st round pick next year from the Panthers so keep throwing those interceptions Jake Delhomme. So far we did great even though we still don't have a QB.

Anyway, your thoughts on how your team did.

Not interested.

But I watched the 49ers once (It was against the Rams, they're the Niners biggest rival aren't they?) and fuck, I don't understand American football at all. :D

At first, I didn't understand it either but then I started to know the rules then you know I follow the NFL. How long have you been living in the US?

Threads merged. You can discuss the nfl draft in the main NFL thread. One thread per sport is my policy else we have too many threads.

The 2010 NFL season kicked off last night, with the Hall of Fame game, wasn't much of a spectacle but hey its only pre-season. Only 4 weeks til the regular season starts.

Any thoughts on who is going to be Super Bowl champions this time around?

I will be hoping that my New Orleans Saints can repeat.

because the NFL is simply more brutal, you don't get hit in rugby like you do in american football

Cos in rugby the impact on the players is not near as much as in NFL. Rugby is an impact sport whereas NFL is a collision sport. The forces suffered by a player getting hit in NFL is pretty much twice that suffered by a player in rugby. In the 1920's in the NFL, many players died due to the forces involved, that's why the safety pads have been so prominent in the sport. I've played both rugby and american football and the difference in the hits you get is very noticeable. In rugby you have to make an attempt to wrap your arms around the person your tackling, in NFL there is no such qualms, you can pretty much do what you want to stop a player. Its just a more dangerous sport hence the pads.

Agree 100%, spot on.

Anyway this thread shouldn't be derailed discussing NFL/American Football compared to other sports. It should be used to discuss all things NFL. The NBA thread seems quite popular, we have a number of American posters and some other NFL fans so we should use this thread appropriately. If ya don't like NFL then you are not really going to convince people who do that its crap or poor or whatever insult you wish to bestow upon it.(I'm referring to other people and not you miiton, my quote just refers to the first sentence of this post.)
