Yes, he is back for Roma but I do not think he will be starting. Or if he does start, he will not play the full 90 minutes.

Do not expect too much from him. He has been out for a little while.

This is what we expect, but he'll go out there and gun it.

Pray for Barella.

If this guy gets injured we will be dusted. Holding this mid all on his shoulders when Hakan is out.

He plays where he's not supposed to.
That's not a valid excuse, he's back to playing his role. He had a great start but regressed as the game went on. Had a good pass here and there but not what I expect from a player his calibre.

Hopefully there will be a positive to come out of Barella being pushed deeper. Hopefully it leads to the starting players becoming even more comfortable and flexible in the midfield. Barella and Calha could swap positions if Calha is being pressed or marked tightly in games as like he has been in the CL over the last couple of seasons. We swap positions vertically, we might as well do it laterally if required. Dimarco has done this in the past, turning up on the right hand side of the pitch on occasion.

This guy does the regista role decently so far. Far better than 2-3 years ago when we were forced to play him there. It might be a blessing in disguise long term since he's becoming a more versatile player ready to slot in different positions. If we can count on Calha, him and Asllani to cover the role this season we'll be fine.

We need to look for a long term solution though. The management will try to get rid of Hakan sooner or later since he's 30 and still has some value.

The thing is, I'm sure he used to play deep a fair bit while he was at Cagliari. I regularly remember waking up from a drunken haze and watching him spraying passes and governing play.

Different standards, though.

I wouldnt mind some experimentation with a 3-4-1-2 with Barella deeper on the pitch. He seems to be a lot better defensively and on the ball now than he was a few years ago has been said. It would also let us play Frattessi in a more natural position.
