Never consider him a captain, too hot head, haven't showed any leadership attitude.
Hasn't been good since Euro. If this red is not a wake up call for him, I think soon or late he will be back at the bench.

As we have all noticed, Barella isn't the "Barella we are use too", something is wrong and it appears to mental after tonights melt down. I have no remedy, but some serious down time seems appropriatel

I wonder if something is going on off the pitch. Footballers are human. He just seems nervous when shooting and irritable in the pitch.

Exactly, my thinking too. Holy smokes should we (FIF members ) become arm chair physiologist! Let's just hope, what ever it is resolves itself over the winter break.

He is probably still recovering from departures of Conte (his staff as well), Lukaku, Hakimi and absence of Eriksen. He was beast last season and that Barella would start at any top team in the world.

Barella is a good player. Tenacious, good technical, strong in attack and defense but greatly overused. Inter needs additional strong player beside Barella as well. both Vecino and Gagliardini not it. Give Van de Beek, Frattesi, Nandez can help him regain his perform?

Christ almighty. This thread is absurd. Barella's performances have definitely been below the standard he set last year. However, there are three obvious things going on here.

1) Conte leaving. Conte put Barella in an optimal position to succeed. Barella's side of the pitch always had the ball, and the majority of his attacking play ran through Lukaku and Hakimi. Those players have been replaced with Darmian and Dzeko. It's only natural Barella would look worse as a result.

2) Barella has simply played too many matches. It's not normal for a footballer to play this much, all the time. The man hasn't had more than two weeks off since 2018 (minus the pandemic). Of course his performance will deteriorate over time.

3) I do believe his overall performances last year were "overrated" because the entire team looked so good. He's a very good player. He reminds me a lot of Claudio Marchisio. But keep in mind that on those dominant Juventus teams, Marchisio was often the third best midfielder.

Anyway, I understand the anger after today's performance. Let's not overreact.

Disagree with almost everyone in this thread.

Barella was way overrated last year. He was making countless unneccessary decisions and overally just not very good. Conte also shared the same assessment.

This year he has been above expectations. Inzaghi is molding him to a Nainggolan role and it seems working. He's got the output and also provides good pressure upfront. Since he's playing away from the goal, his decisions are not as damaging when go wrong. Yes he has been off form lately, but overall, he's good.

It’s not like he was an entirely a different player in the Scudetto season. He was always irritated too on the pitch and never a good shooter despite scoring some nice goals from outside the pitch. He was never as good as people wanted him to be. Was he effective? Yes. Was he fundamental? Never. I agree though he was consistent last season and making less mistakes.

Dont blame for having this opinion, I mean I’m an Inter fan and I would like for Barella to be a world class but I cant lie to myself, I have to say what I see.

Are you claiming 2021 Barella is better than 2020?

I am with Nico. His reaction to Militao's push was natural and those who are criticising him for that are probably emotionless amoebas in their lives.

That Militao shitbag intentionally pushed him so that Nico ends up hitting the ad screen which could cause some injuries. And if you are advocating for him and blaming Barella I am really ashamed to be an interista. Fuck you those spineless tolerant pussies who always blame their own player but not the opponent's. Seriously nobody cares if you admit Barella was wrong and Militao was right, nobody gives a flying shit about your tolerance. Nobody is going to award you with a trophy for being a gentle tolerant pussy!

I rate Barella highly. I think he has world class potential if he can use his head for once. What he did today was unacceptable and inexcusable any way you look at it. I already said this in the match thread: he's not some baby anymore. He has won important trophies playing as a starter and he's next in line for the captaincy wether we like it or not. He will never be world class as long as he makes decisions with a rush of blood to the head as Uni puts it.

Will he learn from this? Probably. But his growing pains at (almost) 25 have put us in a position to play Vecino or Gagliardini against Europe's elite. I hope he's smart enough to realize that's a disaster.

This is what football about, there is some assholes players like militao, but pro players need to know when its just not worth it, yea all this case look very annoying from barella side, but barella problem is that he never calm, its seems like he just start the match when he mad, he mad about everything, pass not come to him, he mad, he pass badly, he mad, he shot bad, he mad, he mad about everything and we can see when his yelling and his hands towards other players, in my opinion, in this case, barella fault 200%, it was game witout pressure and now we not hve him at next stage, i love the player, but he need to fix his mental side...

I appreciate your post and I understand it. But people are born differently, they have different nature. Some people are born impulsive, explosive and others careless, hence calm. Barella's gesticulations stem from his genuine care for the club, it means he is NOT indifferent like many of our players used to be before Conte's arrival. Heck some of them still walk like mercenaries, when Lautaro gets bullied by defenders, none of the players run to support him. The lad always left alone surronded with bigger guys. Why? Cause they give no shit and that's why they are calm, that's why they are nice.

To each their own, I prefer players with complete dedication albeit it often results in over-reaction rather than those nice and quiet so called professionals. It shows they have character, it shows they have anger to win. And I don't like the fact they made him apologize in front everyone. It's a humiliation and such punishments will slowly destruct his genuine warrior character. Fuck that shit, they should have let it go.

this all sounds great, but for the first time in 10 years we're in the CL knock outs and missing one of our most important players and a guy who 'wants' to be captain.

So we can talk about professionalism, passion, etc, all you want, but at the end of the day, he's fucked inter.

And, no, they shouldnt have let it go. Textbook red. I expect a 3 match ban.

There are great captains who'd been receiving lots of red cards, Sergio Ramos is one of them. Nobody made him apologize because they know he is their captain and they owe him a lot for the success they achieved. Yes, he had been leaving his team 1 man down but he been making up for it with his outstanding performances too. Don't get me wrong, I hate him too, but I respect him for the captain he was. That's his sacrifice - his own reputation for his club's success.

By punishing Nico, the club just lowered his authority in front of other players and perhaps it alienated him from the potential arm band even farther. Now he will reconsider his attitude and believe me it will reflect negatively on his dedication too.

You're having a fucking laugh man.

Alienating him?

You set discipline by showing there are no double standards

If him acting poorly impacts negatively on his dedication, then he can fuck right off. I expect someone who put in a shitshow like he did last night to be even more dedicated and committed to proving himself.

I'm not trying to be rude, because I have no issue with you and you're a great poster on FIF, but that post you just made is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read on here

No one made Ramos apologise?
