GdS: A tight band around the arm, a clearly legible signature on the dotted line at the bottom: one thing is not the consequence of the other, but everything about Nicolo’s dream is about to become a reality. Nicolo Barella is ready to put Inter on his shoulders, which are wider than those 172 centimes may suggest. And, in equal measure, Inter are ready to give him the recognition he deserves after more than two years of honorable service. Contract extension plus captain’s armband: Nicolo’s destiny is now written, and we are indeed proceeding with great strides towards this destination. It will take time to cross the finish line but progress of work is evident because Inter consider it a priority to secure perhaps their most admired jewel. And because Barella, an Inter fan at heart, is ready to take concrete steps to say yes to the club.
The ambition of the number 23 is that of a round
contract until 2026: €5M per year for approximately €25M net total. The figure, in general, is not far from what Inter directors would like to offer. In short, there is room for negotiating with high optimism. The Nerazzurri would like to make Nicolo its old-fashioned icon for the future. But first thing first, Barella is expected to become the club’s captain as early as next year. And he, honored by this perspective, has extended his arm towards the club which is a very welcome sign. Meaning, the Italian midfielder is
ready to spread his salary to not burden Inter’s financial account, settling to receive the same wage for two seasons. For this and the next season, Barella will earn €2.5M and the number will jump to €6.5M in 2024 and 2025 and finally €7M in 2026. The total would be precisely €25M net.
A preliminary meeting already took place in Kiev at the end of September, before Shakhtar-Inter. Ausilio met with Nicolo’s agent, Alessandro Beltrami, and began to lay the groundwork. The signature should arrive this year, well before June 30, to immediately start the new five-year period. Inter see Barella as its captain, as a leader who, like Zanetti, always puts the team on his shoulders to go forward. Ninety-six appearances in two seasons, many of which were performed at exceptional level. He deserves the captain’s armband plus a brand new signature.
