I don't think it would be idiotic for Barella to forgo an extra 2-3M in wages to stay at the club he loves and remain surrounded by friends and family. You can't put a price on happiness and comfort.

I've noticed he's taken over Lukaku's whinging duties of late. It can't be easy playing alongside idiots but surely a captain has to be above that. For me Barella is not a leader of men (few are) and it's unfortunate the armband is being used as incentive to get him to put on pen to paper. 12m net is like 20m gross, which is around 400k/week.

I thought of Ranocchia. We gave the armband to him as a reward for the extension in 2014. On the other hand, Icardi's armband wasn't linked to his extension. It was typical Mancini who wanted to take it from Ranocchia and give it to Icardi as he always wants to have a forward as a captain. He even wanted to take the armband from Zanetti and give it to Vieri in his first spell.
