When we let de Vrij leave for free next summer we'll likely sign a cheaper alternative. So your starting CBs will be Milenkovic, Skriniar, and Bastoni, assuming Marotta doesn't go on another bender where he's obsessed with selling one.

Now this is a transfer that I prefer over Bremer (despite Milenkovic not being as good as Bremer).

He's not coming here to replace Skriniar or Bastoni. He will be a very good option as a rotational defender which we badly need. If he performs very well this year, he might replace De Vrij later on, but if not, he can still continue to be a rotational defender. No harm done.

What else? He's young and has solid Serie A experience. The reported 18m price isn't that bad, and we can take advantage by including some of our dead wood that Fiorentina might take away from us. It all depends on our management's skills now.

Not disagreeing with that. I meant that Milenkovic will indirectly replace De Vrij in the squad (not literally replace his position on the pitch). We'll have Bastoni, Skriniar and Milenkovic as starting defenders regardless of their positions.
