*downloads goals* Hmm, I always though his goal against Reggina was more memorable?

Anyhow I am sure you heard this a million times, but how can you download the goals without going to the temporary folder option? :D

Well, the goal against Reggina was superb as well. But it's not as classy as his latest. ;) He totally fooled all those defenders!!! Ala Roberto Baggio!!!

That's the first time I heard that. :D What do you mean by 'temporary folder option'???

Oba Oba wins African award Saturday 1 May, 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inter fan favourite Obafemi Martins has been honoured as African Young Player of the Year.

The pacey Nigerian striker is still only 19 years of age, but has already pushed his way into the first team places at the San Siro.

Often leaving Christian Vieri on the bench, Martins has gone from strength to strength since making an explosive debut in late 2002 and earned the nickname Oba Oba.

Martins was one of several African stars honoured at the ceremony in Yaoundé, as Real Mallorca forward Samuel Eto’o was named Footballer of the Year.

Footballer of the Year: Samuel Eto'o (Real Mallorca, Spain and Cameroon)

Young Player of the Year: Obafemi Martins (Inter, Italy and Nigeria)

Coach of the Year: Kadiri Ikhana (Enyimba, Nigeria)

Club of the Year: Enyimba (Nigeria)

Team of the Year: Cameroon

Best African Champions' League player: Dramane Traore (Ismaili, Egypt)

Goalkeeper of the Year: Idriss Carlos Kameni (Le Havre, France and Cameroon)

Oba
Martins 'ready' for Nigeria
Exclusive by Osasu Obayiuwana
BBC Sport

Martins said he will honour Nigeria's call-up

Obafemi Martins says he is ready to make his debut for Nigeria at the forthcoming Unity Cup tournament in London.

The 19-year-old Inter Milan forward was invited by manager Christian Chukwu to participate in the three-nation tournament, also featuring the Republic of Ireland and Jamaica.

Martins - recently named Africa's Young Player of the Year - turned down the chance to play for the Super Eagles at the African Nations Cup finals in Tunisia.

He claimed that his Italian Serie A commitments with Inter Milan made it impossible for him to spend a month with the national team.

Although he declared his willingness to play in Nigeria's final Olympic qualifier against Tunisia, Martins was refused permission by Inter.

The Italian giants took advantage of the fact that the match was not protected by Fifa's unified international calendar.

Obafemi told BBC Sport that he is ready to make his first appearance at the Unity Cup tournament in London later this month. "Although I've heard that I've been called up to play in the tournament, I 've not received any formal letter from the Nigeria Football Association. "But when it does come, I'm ready to play for my country. "I have no other country but Nigeria," he added.

Martins has scored 11 goals in Italian and European competitions for Inter this season.

=========================================
Yea! I am glad for Oba if he does get to play in this tournament. I am sure every player dreams to play for their country and he has missed out up until now. The African nations cup will always be a dilema for him as it is in january and the olympics cuts into the season so that may cause problems too. This is only a bit of fun but the main thing is he would get to play for Nigeria.

Vieri to Juventus ??
Luciano Moggi has hinted that Christian Vieri is a summer target for Juventus in a revealing interview.

The Inter striker has been linked with a return to Turin and the transfer guru seems very keen.

"I’ve always liked Bobo and we all know what he is capable of giving," he told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Sometimes when you buy a player you are looking for someone who is immediately ready for a great club. Bobo is one of these players."

Vieri could be signed as a replacement for David Trezeguet who is being heavily associated with a summer exit to either Barcelona or Chelsea.

-------------------------

I wouldn't mind Maresca + $$ for Vieri, if Vieri is to be sold to Juventus...
But I would be more happy if he would join Roma or Barcelona rather than Juve :yuck:

Oh I can't deci
Nigeria give Inter striker Martins 'last chance'
First Published: May 05, 2004
Nigeria coach Christian Chukwu said he had given Inter Milan striker Obafemi Martins "a last chance to play for his country" by including him in a 22-man squad for friendly matches against Republic Ireland and Jamaica later this month in England.

"This may be his last chance because we will not beg any player to play for his country," said Chukwu.

"If he does not come now, it will be difficult for us to invite him again."

Nineteen-year-old Martins has so far turned down invitations to play for Nigeria, saying he is not mature yet to feature for the Eagles but that has not deterred the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) from giving him another chance to play for his country of birth.

His reluctance to don the country's colours has been roundly condemned by both the press and the public with NFA Chairman Ibrahim Galadima most scathing in his criticisms.

"Martins has yet another chance to show that he has Nigeria at heart," a top NFA official disclosed.

"It is now left for him to take up this opportunity or turn it down as he has on several previous occasions."

Martins is one of several players who were not involved at the last African Nations Cup in Tunisia in February but have now been given a chance to stake a claim for a place in the national team ahead of the Rwanda clash.

The others are midfield star Wilson Oruma who plays for Sochaux of France, Italy-based Perugia ace Christian Obodo and goalkeeper Sunday Rotimi.

However, there is no replacement yet for injured Hansa Rostock defender Gabriel Melkam, who recently underwent a knee operation.

The England friendlies to be played in London from May 26 and will serve as build-up games for the Super Eagles' World Cup qualifying tie at home to Rwanda on June 5.

Squad:

Goalkeepers: Vincent Enyeama (Enyimba), Greg Etafia (Moroka Swallows/RSA), Sunday Rotimi (Dolphin)

Defenders: Joseph Yobo (Everton/ENG), Ifeanyi Udeze (PAOK/GRE), Seyi Olajengbesi (SC Freiburg/GER), Joseph Enakarhire (Standard Liege/BEL), Isaac Okoronkwo (Wolves/ENG), George Abbey (Macclesfield/ENG), Gabriel Melkam (Hansa Rostock/GER)

Midfielders: Austin Jay Jay' Okocha (Bolton/ENG), Seyi Olofinjana (SK Brann/NOR), Garba Lawal (Elfsborg/SWE), Ifeanyi Ekwueme (Wisla Plock/POL), Wilson Oruma (Sochaux/FRA), Christian Obodo (Perugia/ITA)

Strikers: Obafemi Martins (Inter Milan/ITA), Julius Aghahowa (Shaktar Donetsk/UKR), John Utaka (Lens/FRA), Yakubu Aiyegbeni (Portsmouth/ENG), Osaze Odemwingie (La Louviere/BEL), Nwankwo Kanu (Arsenal/ENG)
