Offensive midfielder issue

A lot has been said that for next season we need an offensive midfielder, more or less a playmaker. Looking at the team we have this season, this might be the case, unless Zac start using Stankovic as one, and see how he does.

What we have forgotten is that we have two very offensive players on loan to other teams. I´m not talking about Stephane Dalmat whom I admitidelly, and sadly, have to say have no future with us. Dalmat and Inter should be a closed chapter, unless he really has gotten a different attitude to the game.

We can all agree on that the project of having youngsters that performs like Kaka, has not been that successful. I DO think we have been able to take use of Emre´s talent though, but that his fitness is an issue.

The two players we have loaned out are:

Carlos Alberto- Porto

A left flanked forward more or less. Could play as a left winger in a 4-4-2 of what I have seen, or even as a striker. He´s only like 19 years old and being preferred in this years CL ahead of other players in a strong team like Porto.

I´ve only seen him a few times, but he´s already impressing me. We have made a true gem with this player, if we take him seriously. He could just as well end up being another Pirlo if we don´t give him a chance.

Ianis Zicu- Parma

A very slow player! But seems to have great ball control and workrate. It´s just a shame that he´s so slow. Seen him a few times also. Could be the future Mutu, perhaps.

With these two avaliable in a couple of years time, what should be done about next season then? Because if I have understood it correctly, both these players are set to stay with Porto respective Parma also for next season.

Diego is the name rumoured to us. But let us not kid ourselves, that we will be able to turn Diego into a new Kaka on his first season. It takes more than one season to settle at Inter.
And also, having Diego, Carlos Alberto and Zicu all at once, will be too much. We need to make choices.

Carlos Alberto is really someone I am eager to see at Inter in a couple of years time.

For offensive midfielder position, we have many choices. No need to scream about that position. To me, we have for this season and next season two very good options- Dejan Stankovic and Karagounis. Experienced players with one year settlement in the team. These are the players I feel can do the biggest impact on that position next season.

On the other hand, we need to face it, that the generation we currently have, has such poor mentality that we can only wait for the next generation of Inter to have a different attitude. This generation to me is players such as Carlos Alberto and Zicu, players who hasn´t experienced the worst scenarios.

We´re covered. No need to buy a damn thing for next season. Take usage of the players we already have, instead of adding more and more players to our already huge squad.

Is Carlos Alberto the guy who played as a striker in Porto`s first game against ManU? He dribled like hell, but usually managed to pull those dribles off too. He seemed like an interesting player but I had no idea that we own him.

Obviously he's same guy. To be honest, neither I had any idea he's ours.

I saw him too in the match Porto-MUFC. He seemed to be a very interesting player and even was able to impress me a bit. Anyway, I doubt he's Serie A class yet but maybe in future he could be.

Signing Stankovic didn't make very much sense in January and it makes no sense at all if Inter thinks they need offensive midfielder now. It would be unbelievble stupidity. In addition we have Karagounis hence we are extremely covered.

Well maybe Dalmat wouldnt cover this position the way we need but i still think Dalmat can add alot to this team...especially if coming off the bench he can turn the midfield offensively. He is still young and has lots of tricks in his bag and under good coach can only improve.

Now about an offensive midfielder i think we have the players to handle that situation in Emre,Stan,Karagounis...We only have to asign them the role and develop them...I wouldnt want to experiment with another player that might not add more than they will in the first place...If we are to get a player for that position he must be almost certain to shine maybe like a Diego especially after the success of Kaka.If not i would rather go with one of our own. :)

Oh man, I love watching Porto only because of Carlos Alberto. Man was he good against Lyon yesterday also. His feets are so fast!! He looks really dangerous. Don´t know how to say it, but he seems dangerous as all our opponents always seem to be when they come near the offensive penalty box. He is so fast he will either cause a penalty or a scoring chanse.

I would rather Dalmat on the team then Lamouchi, but maybe thats just me :D

Anywayz on the Attackive Midfielder/Playmaker role it all matters who we have as coach next year, if it is still in fact Zac or not...

I don't think we're gonna hold on dalmat... if we ever sign another midfielder....

I think Totti won't mind moving to Inter if he has to move away from olimpico... Inter has the advantage of being in serie a. For a player like Totti, winning la liga or premiereship won't be anything like winning serie a.

If we can get Totti, we have to pursue him...,
dejan stankovic is still very buy good but IMO....surely he's still not that good yet, but I can see his confidence in the field.. Not many players coming to Inter can do this...

if we don't sign Totti or aimar-like players, then we have to have a coach that can grow playmakers, zac isn't one of them.. But we do have few good players potential for that position..

stankovic, recoba, emre or kara could fill the position..

if we ever sign totti, very likely Cruz or/and Recoba will move away...
otherwise we are too rich upfront, we can die out of heart attack...
signing Totti will make Vieri, Canna, Christiano Zanetti and Matrix really happy....

Also carlos alberto is very physical which is a necessity in italy. I hope Porto sell Deco and use Carlos alberto as a playmaker for next season and we can see first hand how good he is. Inter managment shouldn't screw things up and make it a co-ownership. In the other hand, Alberto likes to dive and act alot but this is understandable with his young age.

Speaking about offensive midfielders, i read in a magazine that Alessandro Mancini can play as an offensive midfielder or even a trequartista. When i seem him play the least i think of him is a RB. He is so damn good going offensively that playing an AM will suit him. If we can't get Totti then maybe we should try and buy Mancini??

Thats not just u ...More ppl would agree on that than disagree.. :)

Believe me not much is required for this team....A couple of things and time to gel. Also i think the right way to do this is let them gel and try what we have on the positions we need before going out to the market.Too bad that will never happen.

I remember the rumour long time ago on www.calciomercato.com about Carlos Alberto signing pre-contract with us and it was said that he will be on loan to Porto for 1 1/2 year.
But then when he came to Porto nobody said that Inter owns him. It looked like Porto bought him.

I watched Carlos Alberto 2 times and he seems to be good in either left or right wing because he can shoot with both feet.
For example I saw him play against Lyon on the right wing and he assisted first goal and then at the end he did few dribles on the right wing and he cut inside he shot with his left foot over the bar. He seems to be a great player and his real position is playmaker because he played that position in Brazil with Fluminense.
Carlos Alberto is a player that we should really hold on to!!

Jimmy are you sure we own Carlos Alberto?

I think after the number of good performances he's given all the time he dons the Nerazzurra jersey, Karagounis deserves the chance to play in this position. Kara is a good dribbler and somewhat creative. We must not forget the fact that Emre too struggled in his first season due to the lack of playing time and injuries. Kara may not be injured a lot of times but he's not been give much playing time until lately. Let's see if he can shine in his second season, just like La Zanzara!!! :star:

But, I think Recoba is the answer. No, we're not asking him to do a playmaking duties like Zidane or Ronaldinho. If we're just asking him to play like Kaka, I think Recoba can do well. Just ask him to be the one who helps close the gap between the midfield & attack and the midfielder who made those darting runs to the box to score.

I've seen neither Zicu nor Carlos Alberto though so I'm not sure. But what I hope is that Inter doesn't add anymore players to this already jam-packed midfield, unless we off-load some, use 5 midfielders next season and get a very good deal. Otherwise, stick with this current squad. Give them the chance to gel.

I noticed that we either don't have a good player in a position or we have two or three world class players in another. We don't have a good sweeper but we have two very good man-markers. We don't have a good LWB, but we have three excellent CM's (Emre, Stan and now Kara.) Finally, we don't have a good playmaker but we have Vieri, Adriano and Martins in CF. We are really an unbalanced team. :depress: :depress:

I think Stankovic and Kara deserves a chance as a upper midfielder. Those two can easily be developed to that role. And Emre and Cristiano should be our firs choice behind upper midfielder..
