I was sure there was already such a thread but I can't find it (if there is), so I'm posting a new one.

I want to buy a new laptop, but i need a piece of advice about one thing for which i can't seem to find a clear answer: does the resolution affect the battery life?

i have seen a marvelous asus laptop with an amazing 4k resolution, but for me is more important a (reasonably) long battery life, so i was wondering: does the equation higher res = less battery life make sense?

the specs say 4 hours on average use, which i suspect translates to 2 and a half tops, especially with prolonged wi-fi usage.

I think that is a little bit low for a laptop...but definitely higher resolution plays a big part in battery life.

The Galaxy S8 for example ships as 1080p as the default option to preserve battery, but i can go up to 1440p.

Like khaled said: Higher resolution = More pixels to push = eats more battery.

4h is way too low. Maybe you misread it? If you don't care for the aesthetics of the laptop, go for a lenovo. The t470 has a solid 17h battery life.

it's for professional use. i was a week in norway and my current laptop just wasn't enough for my needs, it slowed me down.

i'm considering many options and i can spend up to 2 k euros if really worth it. but battery life MUST be at least, let's say, 200 minutes even with the heaviest usage.

anyways: yes, it's 4 hours, the seller told me that and i don't think he has any interest in telling me a lower number. tx for the answers.

Well, I was thinking 16 giga ram or above if within my spending limit, a solid battery, 17.3 inches. I don't even need a Blu-ray or DVD player, I wouldn't use them.

And I don't care about weight or aesthetics.

There are some sites out there that help a lot, so I think I will find what I need. But I'm also very picky, so it usually takes me a while before I take a decision.

I think it will be an Asus cause I want a make which gives me a 2-year guarantee (which by the way is mandatory in the UE but for some reason some companies question that).

What kind of work? Just get a Macbook pro dude.
Asus aren't known for quality. Razers are built for gamers.

well, it's not like i have to do CAD or stuff like that. mostly writing articles, some of them about events that i may be watching on an internet stream some times. so basically i only really need a lot of ram for the videos and the many chrome tabs. plus a good battery life and a big screen.

i could probably have enough for my needs with much less than 2k but i don't want to be forced to upgrade in a couple of years. but i have pretty much chosen one, i saw a dell workstation on sale in a computer store, i think i'll buy that.

I was gonna get a Macbook Pro [they were refreshed in June], but Intel released Quad Core processors in August that will probably replace the current dual core Macbook Pro processors so ill wait until that refresh.

Razer have multiple options, they have 13.3, 14 and 17 inch options and all of them have different specs so they cover a wide range of people with their machines. The 13.3 one is more of an ultrabook and i was also considering it but it has fans vs the Macbook which has no fans [i hate fans]

Got the razer blade 14 inch, and also for the MacBook Pro 2017, MacBook Pro wins on battery hands down, I basically have to bring the power adapter for the razer blade everywhere I go, but I can actually go out confidently with my MacBook Pro without an adapter knowing it won't run out of battery.

But obviously razer blade is better if you need windows applications.

I got nothing much else to complain other than battery life really, it's much better than any MSI gaming laptop crap I had before.

What about the fans and the heat on the keyboard for the blade?

People who use it for work, movies, music etc..

I would recommend something like a MacBook, MacBook Air or a Chromebook for anyone else.

Sounds like you wont need it for gaming or something extreme so 2k is way more than you need.. Maybe try a dell XPS 15 if you want to spend that much, I know the 4k display is insane on it, and extremely slim and powerful too.

Or if you dont need something portable, get a desktop or build a PC online.

Does anyone here have experience with Chromebooks? I've been thinking of buying one for a while now for university work and casual surfing. I've seen a couple of nice ones from Asus, but since I've never owned one of their products, so I'm kinda hesitant.

first of all, thanks for the advices. i already have a solid desktop pc. but i often travel, so i also need a solid notebook. true, i don't need to spend as much. but i want to buy one which never ever lags and lasts at least half a decade. but as i said previously, i have already made up my mind on this and i chose a dell workstation.

I have a Toshiba Chromebook 2 with an i3 processor, its good for casual work and it was one of the better chromebooks out there for the price and specs but Toshiba has exited the Chromebook market, i would go for an Acer.

A lot of people do actually, it's not really weird at all dude. I personally wouldn't but I've heard of people doing it quite a bit.

What about the fans and the heat on the keyboard for the blade?

All the reviews about that seems exaggerated, although it gets hotter than MacBook Pro. You can feel the keys on the keyboard getting warm, but definitely not to a point where it burns your fingers.

The fans on the razer blade are also a lot quieter than MSI gaming laptop I had before.
