EDIT - On a more serious note, this is making me take another look at his performance from Saturday, and one thing I'll say immediately - one of my general rules of thumb with player evaluation - is that he's a left-footed player who can execute a switch of play on his right foot. Few things excite me more when watching football than seeing players effectively use their weaker foot. For me, it's a sign of supreme confidence and hard work. Having your weaker foot being functional is one thing, being able to use it to unlock defenses or score goals is another thing entirely, it opens up all kinds of things in your game and in your teamplay having two-footed players.

Also, this guy has Espanyol, Barcelona, and Man City on his youth career CV. Even if he was released by City in 2021, that's quite a background. And sometimes teams get things wrong. Pogba was once with Man Utd before Juventus. I think Real Madrid had Pedri in for tryouts on two different occasions and turned him down both times. Some guys develop later than others. When I wrote my post in a different thread earlier about whether Oaktree will put their money where their mouth is on youth players who won't be cheap, guys like this are exactly who I'm talking about. Our midfield is very good, but three of its essential players are 30+, it needs some refurbishment and preferably before it becomes paramount. And Beppe knows this, it's why Samardzic was all-but signed a year ago before all that last minute nonsense occurred.
