I like that we’re scheduling harder games with teams further ahead in preparation (Ligue 1 sides). Hopefully this translates into us being more match fit when the season starts.

No one is disregarding Hakan. But Hakan is what it is, a solid player nothing more. Asllani is regarded as a rough diamond. We can only hope he will develop as an excellent player, who could be an anchor for years to come.

I thought it was just Lukaku, but everyone looked gassed out 20 minutes in.

Lukaku's fitness level is understandably nowhere near when he was here the first time, hopefully it doesn't take him too long to regain his fitness level.

I understand that it’s pre-season but it looks much the same from us with very little vision and variation. And playing like this will not reap any greater benefits than last season.

He will inevitably cost us points this season and we’ll be sitting around dissecting our failures and trying to work out where we went wrong. De Vrij will be at the top of the list.

The only reason he is still at the club is because we cannot afford a replacement and no other club wants him: that is a hardly a ringing endorsement of one of our starters at the back.

He’s not being disregard, and he may well be the first pick, but Aslani and Miki both offer something Hakan doesn’t.

Miki can’t offer the same weapons (dead balls and long-range shooting) but is much better in transition and build-up. Where Hakan can missing for large swathes of the game, Miki is much more involved in general play.

I haven’t seen enough of Aslani to make an accurate assessment, but his ability pick out the forwards with a one touch long-ball is something to behold. I’m very excited to see what he can do.

It’ll be interesting to see how the midfield pans out. Hakan could be the first choice, but he isn’t as secure as he was last season.

We collected 84p last season while netting 1 win in Feb-March. Lukaku should help with that. "Much the same" shouldn't be an issue.

Very Maguire -sque performance from DeVrij, jogging around like a headless chicken, i dont know what happened to him, but he lacks sharpness, confidence, anticipation...

Also, a lot of missed chances, it would have been 5-2, 6-2 easily if we would have scored those.

Amyway, say goodbye to the clean sheet with this abysmal defending and pray that we always score 1 goal more than the oposition.

What I don't understand, why Paramount + and CBS Sports Network did carry any Serie A preseason matches at all. Nothing like building interest in the league.

That's what happens when you spend preseason playing (and not even winning ) against teams no one cares about.

Would've been a nice spectacle for our fans and a much better test of our fitness and tactics if we'd played a big team - not to mention a good marketing opportunity and a bit of extra revenue (lord knows we need it). Whatever.
