Please tell me your rule # 1 for choosing a captain. I'd be interested to hear it.
Specially in Italy that seems to be the most imp factor. Whether me or you agree with it or not is not relevant. However one thing that I believe most Interisti agree with is that due to various reasons J.Zanetti does more than anyone else in the team deserve the captaincy armband. Anyhow, lets not get into a discussion as of who deserves it most as I believe there is another thread about that.

I think numbers 8 and 11 should be retired beacause of Davids and Mihajlovic.

and 23 for Materazzi as well, not to infect future players.

We should retire no.4 for Zanetti. He might have not won a thing with us, but he has been an example. He stuck with us during the tough times, and he still does.

He might not be the perfect captain, and I think he isn't the best captain. However, his heart is black and blue, and I am honoured as an inter fan to have him as a player let alone our captain. He has human characteristics that are so rare these days, I really love him and I hope he wins with us before he retires. However, as soon as he does, the #4 shirt has no place on the pitch, its place is up high on the Meazza roof.

As much as I like Javier Zanetti, oh my God I don't believe I'll say this, but he to Inter is not even close to what Paolo Maldini or Franco Baresi is to AC Milan.

I can see your point, since Baresi and Maldini were born Milan players.

Still, I don't agree with you, because Baresi and Maldini played within a winning team, they won Champions Leagues and Scudetti like crazy. Javier, on the other hand, didn't win squat, and he surely had the chance to move to places like Madrid or Manchester. But he stuck with us.

If anything, I think this makes him even more of an icon.

Orgoglio_Bauscia, your opinion on Capitano shock me and leave me speachless. Apparently you fail to see the enormous impact the figure of Javier Zanetti has on the other players.

I never seen a player capable to lift his teammates' morale with a run, instead than a shout, like Capitano does.

Im glad someone is on the same level as me on this one. This, surely makes him more special as it is very easy and comfortable to stay in a winning team.

Vieri? No way. As much as I love him, he is not even in the same level as JZ or Cordoba, not even close.

Frisko, the biggest reason why I don't want them to retire Javier Zanetti's number is not because of the number of trophies won. If that was the reason, I would have said that they shouldn't retire Bergomi's 2 too since I think Il Zio only won 3 Scudetti with us. I think that the privelege should only go to players who have been in the club ever since the very beginning of his career until the very end, retirees league like MLS and loans when he's in Primavera team excluded.

Han I think that Lo Zio only won one title with us, the records' one.

Anyway, I see your point, but what about what I said about pure loyalty, despite great chances to go and looked after your own career?

Nah, I won't be offended anymore. The good old battles has toughened me :D I used to be a bit bothered by those old arguments, remember that one we had at the make-shift forum last year? I didn't know it was you.

I also suppoted what those idiots did to Vieri's restaurant, that was wrong. But boy, you gave it to me. :dielaugh:

Actually...i dont remember that.

Of course i remember i had "some battles", but i dont actually remember how blatant i was. "Maybe" i was "a bit" bothered as well. :dielaugh:

What forum was that? interforums.com? Is there anything we can do to find those arguments from cyberspace? I would love to read em. Or could you kindly try to refresh my memory.
But boy, you gave it to me. :dielaugh:
Did i? :proud:

Yeah, I was quite new then, it was after the exodus from interforums. We had a transitional one with blue and white frames, and only few members were there.

You had a cat as an avatar and went by the name Christian Vieri. I honestly thought you were a glory hunting kid or some chick in love with Vieri (Blame the kitten avatar for that :D ) Then that cocktail throwing came and I supported it. I was kind of upset that year after we fired Cuper, and Vieri had some cassano-like incidents.

I remember asking you if you just support Inter because of Vieri, you were quite upset and told me that you've been a fan since the late eighties  I put one and one together and figured it was you. Again, blame that kitten avatar, that clouded my judgement.

I don't think anyone has that forum saved or something, would be nice to see it though. :D

I would love to honor the legends of Inter, both past and present, but to make a number unusable ever again simply seems too impractical in the game of football. Sure it works in Yankee Stadium with Mickey Mantle's "7" never to be worn again, but consider football. According to tradition, the keeper usually possesses "1", while defenders have "2" through "6" and the rest of the team possessing numbers from "7" through "20", with "10" reserved for the star player. Eventually a bunch of good players would retire, we would retire their numbers and we would look like asses, our defenders possessing numbers like 26 ***ERM*** Cannavaro ***ERM***. Call me a traditionalist, but fowards should possess the highest numbers, followed by middies, followed by the single digit defense.

As for the actual honoring of football legends, nothing could be more important. Zaccheroni once commented on the fact that modern day foreign contingent at Inter (specifically VDM) holds no knowledge of the long and colorful history of the club. I think, why don't we help educate both players and fans, by stressing the achievements and lives of those forerunners who gave their sweat in the Nerazzuro shirt? If we set up something similar to Monument Park, a memorial area for outstanding Yankees, people would still be fascinated by the likes of Mazzola, J. Zanetti, and others years after their retirement. Moratti would pose the only obstacle to this system, as he would want to honor too many people (Ronaldo and Company) thus killing the novelty! :p

What's most shocking is that you supported the cocktail incidents? :D

I just couldn't stand Cannavao and Vieri back then, specially the former. He showed no heart whatsoever, I'm so glad we booted him out.

Also, I just couldn't comprehend why Bobo wouldn't celebrate? I saw it as a negative mark in the enviornment, and a disrespect to the fans. Oh Oh, here we go again :D

As much as I like Javier Zanetti, oh my God I don't believe I'll say this, but he to Inter is not even close to what Paolo Maldini or Franco Baresi is to AC Milan. I think retiring a jersey number should really be reserves to a very special occasion. Perhaps only to a player who was brought up through the club's academy ranks, has been here ever since (loans when he's in the academy excluded) and has won many trophies.
