some of us hoped for Coutinho being at Inter for years to come, but looking at it now, it's better for him to be at Lpool, since we have Mazzarri and he probably wouldn't even get a chance in this 3-5-2 of his

Coutinho won't excel with Mazzarri.

He fits neither the SS role or the CM role. As a SS in Serie A, he would have no space to play with, it is completely out of question.

I said this when Coutinho was here and still say that he could play SS in a 3-5-2 to good effect IMO.

no, because Palacio (and Belfodil, it seems) fit the SS description beautifully, it's what Mazzarri needs, another attacker that runs a lot, makes space for others, where Cou is more of a AMC(and AML) type, which shows nice at Liverpool. I'd love to play their formation, but we won't, not now, with Mazzarri.

Also Mazzarris SSs still have a lot of important defensive duties, where I see Cou having more of a free role. again, what he needs

Interesting stats on Alvarez from WhoScored....

Has the 5th best rating of the top leagues, 8.73 behind Messi (10), Tiago of Atletico Madrid (9.15), Alexandru Maxim of Stuttgart (8.8), Hamsik (8.77).

Has the best passing % of the top 20 ratings at 94%.

4.5 tackles per games. Only defenders and DM are higher than him.

3.5 key passes per game only behind Fabregas who has 4 per game.

4.5 successful dribbles per game only behind Messi (5.5), Pablo Barrientos (5),

Also interesting that of the top 20 15 play in Serie A. Campagnaro (11) and Palacio (18) are the other inter players on the list.

Well all this confirms what most people who have watched the games can see Alvarez is having a strong start after an excellent preseason.

I did to some extent. Thought he could be a useful, versatile squad player, but not the beast he is right now. Though I always thought he was more useful than Coutinho.

I've always defended him and believed he'll eventually show his quality but the only thing that still bugs my and IMO limits him a lot is his weaker foot. He doesn't even try to use it sometimes when it's easier to and wastes momentum to switch to the left foot. If he somehow manages to work on his weaker foot he'll be twice the player. Anyhow a creative player with strong defensive contribution is really hard to find so if he keeps up and continue like this we'll have a really valuable asset for the future.

We can quit the Alvarez ass kissing anytime now, thank you.

We can all thank Mazzarri though, under him usually average players turns into superstars, he himself said so in an interview and mentioned Cavani in that manner. Guess every coach has his own thing, seems like that's Mazzarri's thingy.

I also thought Alvarez could be much better and be more useful for the team in some sort *Alvarez ass kissing alert* I love you Alvarez.

not sure if you are serious. Ricky played wonderful imo.
held up against Juve and help out in defense.
great assist and tackle leading to Icardi's goal.
Wonderfull doesn't mean losing balls, and he lost some times because of stupid decisions, but it's natural. He was avarage, he can be better than that and make more threats on goal, but he done his job.

I'm rating his game 6.5.

Not hyping him but I guess we all like Ricky 'cos he helps out A LOT in defense. This is a significant shift in our team's mentality and that's what matters the most.

I thought Campagnaro was miles better than him. I'm worried that Mazzari will bench either him or Kovacic, once the latter regains full match fitness. It's blindingly obvious that it should be Guarin/Cambi that's benched but coaches have their own weird (and better :D) way of thinking.

today he was, our most important player in the midfield. just as a player like cambiasso (who did more than okay today) is needed in our midfield, we need someone who can create and defend when needed. not saying taider, guarin and kova didn't do their thing, but alvarez offers a lot of off the ball movement and some good passes (his passing rate is obvious)

his corners leave a lot desired and I still don't expect him to be the next sneijder for Inter. he's not that good in offense, he's different. we do need others to up the ante tho, I'm sure Guarin will start scoring soon, if he opens up better in attack or make better runs
