I'm probably going to get assaulted for this. But Ricky is better when he drops down instead of being SS. Each time we moved him back something magical happens. Now either Mazzarri understands not to mess with the good vibes and keeps Ricky as SS then drops him lower on the pitch near the end of the match because these things happen, but I'd like to see Ricky be that midfielder all game long instead of the last 15 minutes.

Just look how he took the ball and assisted Icardi against Juve.

or badly trained in the last 2 years with 4 incapable coaches to train him in a proper way or play him in the right way.

Thank you. People are reluctant to just give Alvarez his credit. Bottom line is everytime he's been healthy for a sustained period of time he has managed to do something effective. His inability to make the breakthrough is more down to incompetence of the management in hiring a coach they stick with for more than a year.

I think you are right about Mazzarri not wanting to mess with the good vibes. It's like they always say never change a winning formation. Perhaps he's a believer on that. Also I can see why he might prefer Taider for example who helps bring balance, although Ricky has proven to be a solid tackler.

I really dislike this SS position for Ricky.

He drops deep very often and we look more often like playing with six midfielders, but still incapable of creating anything. We missed Kovacic a lot I have to say.

The movement up front is lacking with just Palacio, and we really should get Belfodil or Icardi in there to act as a target.

LCM plzzzzzz..

I would prefer him on RCM, he almost always goes towards the middle so going inwards on RCM position he can use his left food, instead of right on LCM

i always knew he had skill and some ability. but i didn't believe he was good enough to be able to demonstrate it properly. i think he's in the same boat as jonathan, they worked hard, trained hard, and it paid off. they're making themselves better players :proud:

Can't picture johnny working hard tbh....he gives me the vibe that he's a good for nothing guy who happens to be the ladies man.

Can't say I disagree.

I'm fine with either, just get him outta SS.

I like that he's using his right foot. Took him long enough to realize. First rate performance but too much unnecessary dribbling. And those Kaka comparisons are a bit of a joke but whatever helps you sleep at night. lets see some consistency and pray he remains injury free.

I disagree. He's been decent to pretty good ever since he came back (last season under Stramaccioni) from that injury. Alvarez struggled with the increased pace, physicality, and pressing of European football (compared to S. America) when he first arrived, and he clearly worked on his conditioning while he was recovering from his injury.

Of course Mazzarri has helped him with this, but give credit to Alvarez for this improvement before Mazzarri arrived.

He was beast last year too, the second part of the season.

I mean, he scored 7 goals and assisted 2-3 goals as well. Created chances and helped the defense.

But he never was helping the team this way. This Alvarez is all over the pitch. Right, left, center, back helping Jonathan, Cambiasso, Naga everyone, not giving the ball away, dribbling only when needed to. Mazzari is really helping him.

Is it just me, or he looked considerably stronger before joining us? He looks skinny now :D
It is just a curiosity, because Serie A is usually packed with muscle [think of Alexis Sanchez in Serie A vs Alexis Sanchez of Barca].
