Ladies & gentlemen, mistery finally solved:

Roberto Carlos slams Hodgson

Roberto Carlos confirms he only left Inter because of Roy Hodgson, a tactician who “doesn’t know much about football.”

The Brazilian had a very brief stay at San Siro in 1995-96 before he was sold to Real Madrid.

“Hodgson's stay at Inter destroyed me,” Roberto Carlos told planetfootball.

“He played me in midfield and I had to consider that there was a chance that this would ruin my career in the national side.

“It's not that I did not have a good relationship with Hodgson. It is just that Hodgson doesn't know much about football.

“When Inter lost in the UEFA Cup final against Schalke in 1996, it was purely because of Hodgson.”

Roberto Carlos had a considerably better rapport with Italian Coach Fabio Capello, who brought him to Real Madrid.

“Fabio Capello was different - so different - and when I moved to Madrid I did it because of him. He is the most important Coach I have had in my life.”

I don't think that was ever a 'mistery' tbh

If Zanetti shouts at you, you're probably a bad coach.

All this period without football made me wonder where the heck is our Roberto Carlos thread :D well, quite a surprise we didn`t have one, so here it is.

Roberto Carlos was bought to Inter from Paleiras on Aug 15, 1995 for the equivalent of €3.5m. It was the same year Javier Zanetti was signed [for €6.5m].

In 1 season he managed to score 7 goals in 34 matches (5 goals in 30 Serie A matches). Here are the goals:

Even so, after 1 year he was sold to Real Madrid for the equivalent of €6m. The rest is history we all know. I have many times asked myself why such a player was sold. Roberto Carlos came out couple of days ago and touched upon the subject.

Roberto Carlos has slammed English coach Roy Hodgson, accusing the current Crystal Palac boss of 'not knowing much about football.' Roberto Carlos blames former Blackburn Rovers boss Hodgson for ruining his career at Italian side Internazionale during his tenure at the club, and explains that his decision to move was inspired by his view of the coach's ability.

The Brazilian star stated that he has no problems on a personal level with Hodgson, but that he had little respect for his coaching methods.

"Hodgson's stay at Inter destroyed me. He played me in midfield and I had to consider that there was a chance that this would ruin my career in the national side. It's not that I did not have a good relationship with Hodgson. It is just that Hodgson doesn't know much about football.”

“We didn’t get along very well, but I didn’t know much about European football.”

“Roy Hodgson destroyed me. He made me play in the centre of midfield. I wasn’t going to get a chance to play for Brazil like that and there was a Copa America in 1997,” the legendary full back admitted in an interview with Spanish news outlet Marca. “It’s not that we got on badly, it’s that he didn’t know much about football. I talked to Moratti and asked him to let me go.”

"When Inter lost in the Uefa Cup final against Schalke in '96, it was purely because of Hodgson.

"Fabio Capello was different - so different - and when I moved to Madrid I did it because of him. He is the most important coach I have had in my life."

On his birthday [April 10], Inter wished former defender Roberto Carlos a happy birthday as he celebrated his 47th birthday.

Just another proof of how crucial a coach is for a club. :work:

Or Cuper or Mazzarri or Lippi or some other blast from the past.

Are you saying there is a bad pattern here.

Jokes aside, if you do not give autonomy to the manager or the management than you will risk sowing disharmony and lack of accountability. For example if beppe comes to Zhang and says X player should go and Zhang vetos the decision than Beppe will feel his advice is not being heeded. Similarity, if conte asks for a wingback and the management gives him Eriksen than your also forcing his hand.

When shit goes wrong everyone will point the finger and no one will take accountability for their mistakes.

Pirlo left because of Lippi initially who did not rate him and later on with Cuper, who opted to sell him for a very good amount and bring in Cristiano Zanetti from Roma with less than that to pair him with fellow 'destroyer' Di Biagio. Pirlo would have struggled in Cuper's 4-4-2. But I know I'd much rather have Pirlo than Farinos and definitely believe that we could have amended the side so that Pirlo could play in the role he was being solid for Brescia just some months before. The offer from Milan was too good to refuse for a 5th choice central midfielder for Cuper, but that also doesn't explain how we brought someone like Emre for that same position.

At least tactically that made sense at the time, which can unfortunately prove all the same for selling someone like Skriniar in the near future.

Losing Roberto Carlos made no sense whatsoever.

^If I remember correctly, Pirlo was more used as a striker with Inter. It is only with Milan that he was used as a deep lying playmaker.

As for R.Carlos...... well..... the leftside has been Inter's weak spot for so many years....and still is

Pirlo was used as a #10, but more of the Spanish style (aka Riquelme) than the Italian or standard trequartista style where he pretty much was an extra forward.

He was used deeper by Brescia when we loaned him there because Baggio was playing the #10 role. And Milan liked what they saw. Most of Italy liked what they saw.

At Reggina he was used as a central midfielder on occasions iirc.
